BMW iX3 Set to Launch Early Next Year
BMW’s Panoramic Vision
First Car to Feature This Technology

BMW has hinted at the release of the 2025 model second-generation electric vehicle iX3. The iX3, previewed by BMW’s Vision Neue Klasse X concept, boasts a new design direction featuring efficiency and propulsion, incorporates cutting-edge technology, and is slated for launch as early as the end of this year.

The iX3 is built on the Neue Klasse platform, equipped with 6th generation eDrive technology, which can accommodate both single and dual motor setups, and offers a range exceeding 800km (about 497 miles). It is mentioned alongside competitive models like the Audi Q4 e-tron, Porsche’s new Macan EV, Mercedes EQC, and Tesla Model Y.

Integrated Dual LED Headlights and
Wide Span OLED Taillights

The new iX3, codenamed NA5, heralds a new direction in BMW’s aesthetic philosophy. Notable features include a sleek panel on the nose, integrated dual LED headlights reminiscent of the Vision Circular and Vision Neue Klasse concepts, a dual cowl hood, and angular lower air vents. The side profile is similar to BMW’s electric SUV iX, with flat-face wheel arches, and the dynamic rear boasts a wide-span OLED taillight with a layered structure for depth.

The iX3’s interior offers a glimpse into BMW’s future interiors. The wrap-around dashboard reflects the design of the Vision Neue Klasse, integrating digital technology and aesthetic design to enhance the driving experience.

First BMW Brand Vehicle to Feature
Panoramic Vision

The iX3 is the first BMW brand vehicle to feature the BMW Panoramic Vision. The Panoramic Vision displays necessary information on the front windshield, allowing the driver and passengers to interact with the car through simple gestures. It is complemented by a 3D head-up display and driven by a software architecture that combines various data streams for customized situational interactions for iX3 passengers.

The iX3 uses the Neue Klasse platform, signaling the transition from the existing CLAR platform to the Neue Klasse platform, which anticipates 6th-generation BMW eDrive technology. This platform is said to accommodate both single and dual-motor setups for rear-wheel and all-wheel drive. The single-motor model is expected to be named iX3 40, and there is a high possibility of adding an M60 xDrive model boasting a maximum output of 600 horsepower.

Uses Round Battery Cells
Energy Density Increased by Over 20%

The iX3 uses round battery cells, which have increased the energy density by more than 20% compared to previous models, improving charging speed and driving range by 30%. Thanks to an 800-volt system, optimized weight, and efficient thermal management system, it is expected to guarantee a competitive driving distance of over 800km (about 497 miles). BMW CEO Oliver Zipse said, “We plan to introduce bidirectional charging through the Neue Klasse and have already conducted numerous tests.”

He also said, “Our customers can use the electric energy stored in the vehicle to power their homes or electric devices like e-bikes. This can help save on electricity costs and stabilize the network.” Production of the iX3 is set to begin in early 2025 at BMW’s new iFACTORY in Debrecen, Hungary. Meanwhile, BMW also plans to launch a long-wheelbase version of the iX3, known by the codename NA6, designed explicitly for the Chinese market.
