Mercedes-Benz EQS: Electric Sedan That’s More Luxurious Than Ever

newautopost Views

Mercedes-Benz EQS Facelift
Preview Ahead of Beijing Auto Show

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its flagship electric sedan, the 2025 EQS, ahead of its official debut at the Beijing Auto Show. The model, more luxurious than its predecessor and boasts upgraded performance, is expected to wash away the previous sales slump.

Despite its impressive performance, some argued that the original EQ brand sedan failed to gain popularity due to its design. What changes can be felt from the front grill, and how does it differ from the previous model?

Revamped Design with Changes to the Front

The EQS is the first electric sedan produced based on Benz’s electric vehicle-only platform, EVA. While it was expected to gain popularity with its streamlined droplet design minimizing aerodynamic drag, it didn’t. Therefore, changes were made to small parts, including the front grill, in this new model.

Particularly noticeable is the first-time application of the tri-star graphic to the headlamps in the E-Class full-change model. The Benz tri-star logo inside the front grill has moved to the hood like the S-Class, enhancing its luxury. The chrome horizontal grill pattern, like the S-Class, has been carried over, giving a different feel to the front grill, which has been the most controversial.

Emphasis on Second Row Interior
Strengthened Chauffeur-Driven Role

The design of the side and rear is not much different from the previous EQS, and there is no noticeable change in the interior, either. However, the new EQS’s second-row interior space is noteworthy, with technology expanding the second-row living space by folding the front passenger seat. In addition, the angle of the second-row reclining seats has been increased from 27 degrees to 38 degrees, and the heating range of the heated seats has also been expanded.

The battery has a capacity of 118kWh, an increase from the previous 108kWh. Based on the European market, it can secure about 82km more driving distance than the previous model. New braking software has also further improved the regenerative braking system.

Will It Be Released Under a Different Name?
Domestic Schedule Yet to Be Announced

There is growing interest in whether the existing EQ brand naming will continue or change as news of the revamp of the electric vehicle lineup is announced. Whether Mercedes-Benz’s electric vehicles will continue to evolve in the wake of changes to the EQS facelift remains to be seen.

The EQS price is $134,000 for the EQS 450+ and $159,000 for the EQS 450 4MATIC. The cost and specific performance of the upcoming EQS facelift have not been revealed yet. It remains to be seen whether the improved design and performance can elevate the status of Mercedes-Benz’s flagship electric sedan domestically and abroad.
