Kia’s new midsize car, the K4, is set to launch a wagon model
Receiving high praise in anticipated reviews
Unfortunately, the Kia K4, which had gathered anticipation as a strong competitor to the Avante, isn’t available in Korea. Its sleek styling and competitive features are on par with the Avante, so it’s receiving positive reactions overseas.
The surprise reveal of the 5-door hatchback is expected to replace the midsize hatchback ‘Ceed‘ currently sold in the European market. Kia has also surprised us by developing a wagon model, and a recent realistic rendering of this model has captured the attention of netizens.
A full-fledged shooting brake completes the side without any sense of incongruity.
On July 7th, YouTube car rendering expert ‘KKSSTUDIO’ revealed an imagined version of the Kia K4 Wagon. While the base model K4 has a crossover style that breaks away from the traditional sedan, incorporating elements of an SUV, the wagon takes on the form of a full-fledged shooting brake. While a hatchback cuts off the tail of a sedan, a wagon extends the trunk into a 2-box shape.
Only the rear quarter panel, the top of the tailgate, and the roofline have been altered from the existing sedan model, but they create an entirely different atmosphere. The gently sloping roofline extends to the top of the tailgate, and the stretched DLO line narrows towards the rear, giving a sense of speed. The design identity of the triangular shape rising from the end of the lower molding of the rear quarter glass is preserved.
What’s the difference from the hatchback model? Emphasizing openness with rear glass
The difference from the hatchback model isn’t just the length of the rear. A roof rack has been added for maximum utility, and unlike the hatchback model, which emphasizes a thick D pillar, the wagon is filled with rear quarter glass. Although both are based on the same GT line, the wagon gives a more relaxed feeling as it shares the exact bumper details with the sedan.
Even the rear glass reveals a subtle difference. The wagon features a wiper, but no wiper can be found on the hatchback. However, considering the recent trend of hiding the wiper under the top tailgate spoiler in a hidden type, this method may have also been applied to the hatchback model.
When will the K4 wagon be revealed? Let’s take a look at the netizens’ reactions.
Kia has not yet released any specific information about the release date or powertrain of the K4 wagon. Other than the wagon’s optimized cargo space, the powertrain, convenience, and safety specifications are expected to be the same as those of the sedan. The industry anticipates that the K4 wagon model will be unveiled in the second half of this year.
