Land Rover’s first-generation Range Rover
Attention to the model reborn as an electric vehicle
Equipped with Tesla electric powertrain
With the advent of the electric vehicle era, an unexpected vehicle is attracting attention: classic vehicles. In today’s era, where it has become challenging to operate classic vehicles due to the discontinuation of parts or environmental regulations, the number of people converting them into electric vehicles to extend their lifespan has increased significantly. It is said that several specialized conversion companies that convert classic vehicles into electric vehicles are emerging around the world.
Recently, in the UK, the first-generation classic Range Rover model has been converted into an electric vehicle, attracting attention. The reason this vehicle is attracting more attention is because it is equipped with a Tesla battery and electric motor. According to the company that modified the car, the model was not made for a particular purpose but for sale. This means that the vehicle can be purchased on the market. Look at the classic Range Rover equipped with a Tesla electric powertrain.
The classic Range Rover presented by the conversion specialist company Interbird
Interbird is a British professional conversion company that converts classic vehicles into electric vehicles. They recently converted the classic Range Rover into an electric car as their first model and presented it to the general public. An older model Range Rover will be restored to new vehicle standards and then finally remodeled with an electric vehicle powertrain.
Interbird explained that all classic Range Rover lineups sold then, including 2-door models, 4-door models, and the long-body model LSE, can be modified. Customers can also choose the vehicle’s exterior color and interior color options.
Replacing the original internal combustion engine with a Tesla electric powertrain
The most prominent feature of Interbird’s classic Range Rover, which has been converted into an electric vehicle, is that it is equipped with Tesla’s batteries and electric motor. The car is equipped with a dual motor used in Tesla models, producing a maximum output of 450 horsepower and a maximum torque of 61.2 kg.m. This performs much more well than the V8 engine installed in the classic Range Rover. Thanks to this, it takes only 5 seconds to reach 100 km/h ( 62 mph) since it is equipped with a dual motor and supports four-wheel drive.
The battery capacity is 80 kWh, and it also supports 100 kW fast charging, allowing charging from 20% to 80% in about 32 minutes. The driving range is somewhat disappointing compared to the battery capacity, and the maximum distance that can be driven once fully charged is about 320 km ( 199 miles).
Additional specifications have been applied
The Range Rover, converted to an electric vehicle, has some additional specifications applied. First, LED daytime running lights and headlamps are used for the exterior. In the interior, the previously plastic dashboard was wrapped in leather, and the steering wheel was also wrapped in leather to enhance the sense of luxury. Additionally, armrests were installed on the center console of the first-row seat and the edge of the second-row seat, and the seats are painted in two-tone colors. Additionally, an additional headrest is installed if the vehicle does not initially have a headrest.
A separate display that can run Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is installed below the center fascia, and the transmission has been changed to electronic. The trunk has a storage box where a person can sit on top. In addition, heated seats, premium speakers, and USB charging ports have been added, and the brakes have been upgraded to ALCON products. In addition, additional soundproofing is provided to ensure a quiet interior.
