Alpine Alpenglow Hypercar: A Track-Ready Vision for the Future of Automotive Engineering

newautopost Views

Alpine Alpenglow Hypercar At the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit in May 2024
Scheduled to be released for the first time

Alpine is a sports car subsidiary of French automobile manufacturer Renault. Recently, vehicles such as the Alpine A110 R Tourini and AGTZ Twin Tail Coach Build were launched, attracting public attention in the automobile market.

Meanwhile, Alpin plans to unveil its hydrogen-powered hypercar, the Alpenglow Concept, on the track for the first time in May 2024. With this, Alpine hinted at the possibility that vehicles that are to be launched in the future may use hydrogen power.

Vehicles to be launched by Alpine in the future Show aesthetic and technical direction

Alpin’s Alpenglow hypercar was first unveiled as a concept at the 2022 Paris International Motor Show and is designed to demonstrate the aesthetic and technical direction of future Alpine cars. The vehicle, equipped with a hydrogen combustion engine, will be unveiled for the first time at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium ahead of the race on May 11, 2024, at 6 pm.

Alpine also explained, “Alpenglow is a vehicle that will realize Alpine’s ambition for a very sporty track vehicle.” Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium is a challenging track for both driver and car, and Alpenglow’s performance on that track will demonstrate that Alpin is serious about creating the world’s best sports car.

Based on the initial Alpine A4810 Concept
Pixel-style headlight design

Additionally, Alpin revealed that Alpenglow’s prototype will preview various design clues for Alpine’s next-generation race and road cars. Alpenglow’s styling design is derived from the initial Alpine A4810 concept and is said to be much more advanced than the concept unveiled in 2022.

Alpenglow is equipped with a pixel-style headlight design that will likely become a standard feature throughout the Alpine vehicle lineup. The intake air is arranged on the front end to optimize aerodynamics. The LMP1-style glass canopy was retained, and above it, a prominent air intake was visible to cool the engine mounted in the mid-rear.

Similar weight to the A110 sports coupe
Used lightweight carbon fiber

Alpine previously said that the Alpenglow weighs 1,000 – 1,200 kg (2,204 – 2,646 lbs), almost similar to the A110 sports coupe. By using lightweight carbon fiber for the body, they eliminated the extra weight of a pair of 700 bar hydrogen storage tanks. Meanwhile, organizers of the 24 Hours of Le Mans plan to introduce a new category powered by fuel cells and combustion fuel in 2027.

Companies such as Stellantis, BMW, and Toyota are adamant that battery-powered electric vehicles alone are not the answer for the vehicles of the future and are working to make cars that run on hydrogen fuel. Alpine is also one of several automakers seeking alternatives to traditional gasoline engines. As research on hydrogen combustion accelerates, it can be expected that there will be as many vehicles using hydrogen as power as electric vehicles in the future.
