Currently, Chevrolet’s flagship pickup truck model is the Silverado. This vehicle is one of the top three pickup trucks in the U.S., along with the Ford brand’s F150 and the Ram brand’s 1500. It is characterized by a massive size, angular design, excellent off-road performance, and traction, and the Silverado EV is prepared to follow the recent electric vehicle trend.

Before Silverado, there was the Chevrolet C/K pickup truck model. C/K is known as the model that has been in charge of the Chevrolet brand’s full-size pickup truck lineup for about 40 years and is currently a model that has joined the ranks of old cars. However, it is said that a C/K pickup truck that has recently been converted/restored to an electric vehicle is becoming a hot topic overseas.

What kind of model is the Chevrolet C/K pickup truck?

At first glance, you might wonder, Is this the car’s name? It is Chevrolet’s full-size pickup truck model, with C for the rear-wheel drive model and K for the four-wheel drive model. In other words, C/K can be said to be an all-encompassing name. A number follows C or K, and the larger the number, the larger the vehicle size. At first, it was named with two digits: 10, 20, and 30, but from the third generation, it was called with four digits: 1500, 2500, and 3500. For reference, the four-digit naming system was also inherited from the successor model, Silverado, and there are still three levels: 1500, 2500, and 3500.

Chevrolet C/K was first launched in 1960 and was released in a total of 4 generations before being discontinued in 2002. The Suburban and K5 Blazer sold in the same generation were made using the platform of that vehicle. Based on the last 4th generation platform, GMC Sierra, Yukon, Savanna, and Cadillac Escalade were released. Chevrolet launched the Tahoe, the successor to the K5 Blazer. Express, famous for its StarCraft van, was launched in South Korea. In other words, it is an important model that became the base for GM’s full-size RV vehicles.

As the electric vehicle era begins in earnest, many cases exist where old vehicles are restored/remodeled into electric vehicles. Old vehicles’ engine performance is low due to limitations in technology at the time, and they emit a lot of harmful gases. However, when converted to electric vehicles, performance is greatly improved, and no exhaust gases are generated.

Recently, a K10 pickup truck was restored/modified into an electric vehicle, and surprisingly, the vehicle’s owner is said to be actor Robert Downey Jr., famous for his role as Iron Man. It is the 2nd generation model from 1972, and while maintaining the classic look as much as possible, some of the latest specifications, such as LED lamps and central displays, were applied.

Robert Downer Jr. has tried to offer six restored/modified vehicles, including the K10 pickup truck, as prizes. In particular, Downey’s Dream Car program aired on the American streaming service Max showed a vehicle being modified as a prize, which was given away through the event.

In addition to the Chevrolet K10, Robert Downey Jr. has tried to give away a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE, a 1965 Volkswagen Microbus, a 1966 Buick Riviera, a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible, and a 1985 Chevrolet El Camino. However, the Mercedes Benz 280 SE is a keepsake from his mother, and only this was converted into a bio-diesel vehicle, and the rest were all converted into electric vehicles.
