Chevrolet Trailblazer records lowest sales in its class
The first quarter sales volume for the Chevrolet Trax, a leading compact SUV, was 5,718 units. The Trailblazer, launched earlier, couldn’t avoid poor performance in the compact SUV market. This model only sold 1,244 units during the same period. This number is lower than the Renault Korea XM3 (2,937 units) and KGM Tivoli (1,603 units).
Previously, GM Korea claimed that there would be no significant worry about sales interference issues that arose when launching the Trax crossover, as the two models have distinct directions. However, the concerns materialized. What if, as a last resort, a coupe model was launched? A realistic virtual rendering has been released, catching attention.
Realistic rendering
Completely changed the pillar shape
kdesignag, a specialist in creating vehicle renderings, posted a rendering of the Chevrolet Trailblazer coupe model on Instagram. The short body and floating roof combination distinguish it from the existing model, which showcases the latest trends in compact SUV design. The traditional pillar design connects with the body in the same color and harmonizes with the slim roofline.
The side character line, which was nearly horizontal, has also changed. Starting from the top of the second-row door handle, the new line changes from a horizontal to a gentle curve, emphasizing the unity and wheel arch. The wheel arch cladding is retained along with the rocker panel, preserving the SUV’s identity.
Distinct rear end
It looks natural even without major changes
The difference is more pronounced at the rear. The addition of rear quarter glass smooths out the DLO line, and the roof rack has been boldly removed. However, unlike the gently sloping D pillar, the rear glass has an angle and ends with a roof spoiler. They’ve added a chrome garnish between the taillights to emphasize the sporty feel.
Apart from lowering the position of the rear emblem, the tailgate has not been significantly changed. It looks harmonious even when using the existing SUV design. Although no interior renderings were created, it is expected to maintain a similar layout to the SUV version, except for the reduced headroom in the second row and trunk space.
Release Possibility is Slim
The possibility of launching a Trailblazer coupe model is slim, but if it does become a reality, it has enough power performance to be used as is. It’s equipped with a 1.35L inline 3-cylinder gasoline turbo engine, delivering a maximum output of 156 horsepower and a maximum torque of 24.1 kgf.m. The front-wheel drive specification is mated with a CVT, and the all-wheel drive specification is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
