Ford Limited Edition Mustang GTD
Reveals Additional Information About Pricing
The buying process may not be easy.
Last year, the Ford Mustang underwent a complete change to its seventh generation. Not long after, it became the only muscle car left due to the discontinuation of long-time rivals such as the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. Despite the trend towards electrification and downsizing, the Mustang has maintained the traditional muscle car elements, including a large-displacement naturally aspirated V8 engine, manual transmission, and rear-wheel drive.
The new car also comes in various derivative models, including the GTD, for which additional information has been revealed. The GTD, which could be called the mass-produced version of the GT3 race car, is a rare model produced in limited quantities at a price exceeding $350,000. However, even if you have the funds, you must pass Ford’s strict review to become the owner of a Mustang GTD.
Over 800 horsepower maximum output
Race car-level exclusive specifications
The Mustang GTD is the most hardcore model among the new cars. Its low body, aggressive body kit, and swan neck spoiler exude an extraordinary aura. Its power performance is no less than that of a supercar. It features a 5.2L V8 supercharger engine that was fitted to the previous generation Shelby GT500, and it has undergone significant improvements, including the application of a dry sump and a titanium active valve exhaust system. As a result, it delivers over 800 horsepower.
Its athletic performance has also been raised to near race car levels. By making bold design changes, such as attaching the transmission to the rear and integrating the final drive system into the rear axle, it has achieved a 50:50 weight distribution. It’s also equipped with semi-active pushrod suspension from Multimatic, which supports garage adjustment, magnesium wheels, and other race car-like specifications for road use.
Higher Than Expected Price
The Company Chooses the Customers
When the Mustang GTD was first unveiled in August of last year, industry insiders predicted that the new car’s price would start at $300,000. However, according to a recent report by Motortrend, a Ford official said, “It will start at about $325,000, and production will start between the end of this year and the beginning of next year.” That’s equivalent to starting at approximately $390,000.
Despite the price being about eight times that of the base model, many consumers will likely be eyeing this new car. Although the exact quantity was not confirmed, Ford official Matt Simpson said, “Between 300 and 700 units will be produced yearly.” The most crucial point is that there’s no need to rush to line up to purchase the Mustang GTD. Ford intends to select the owners of this historic limited edition model through their review process.
Toughly Presumed Questions
No Resale Within 2 Years
If you want to get your hands on a Mustang GTD, you’ll have to answer questions like, “Do you own or have you owned a Ford Mustang?” “Do you participate in motorsports?” “Do you own high-performance models from other manufacturers?” “If you’re a business owner, do you have a cooperative relationship with Ford?” “Are you a car collector?” “Can you influence public opinion?” “Do you use Ford vehicles for charity work ?” and so on.
Of course, you don’t have to meet all these criteria, and not many people will, but the entry barrier is expected to be relatively high. Moreover, even if you pass all the hurdles and purchase a Mustang GTD, you must sign a contract clause promising not to resell the vehicle within two years. This is a measure to prevent the use of this historic model as a means of making money. Ford previously introduced a similar procedure when it launched the second-generation GT.
