Tesla’s Absurd Response to EV Cybertruck

There is constant news of defects in the latest electric vehicles. Previously, it was reported that Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle, the SU7, was shipped in China on May 8, 2024, and stopped due to a system problem after driving 24 miles.

It’s absurd, but this wasn’t just a problem with Chinese electric vehicles. Similar problems also appeared with Tesla’s popular new EV, the Cybertruck. It ran a slightly longer distance than the Xiaomi SU7, but Tesla’s response afterward also became a problem.

The Foundation top-spec model had issues from the start of the delivery process

On May 9, 2024 (local time), a story was posted on the Tesla Cybertruck community, Cybertruck Owners Club, of an owner who experienced a defect after driving only 35 miles after delivery. The author purchased the Foundation Series, which was initially sold in a limited edition of 1,000 units.

This specification is the highest trim equipped with a tri-motor and costs $122,135. However, the author said that he experienced problems from the moment he received the new model. The exterior of the delivered vehicle was very dirty, and the remaining battery capacity was only 47%. He said, “I have never seen a case where a new model was not filled with fuel or electricity.”

After driving just 35 miles, coolant leaked onto the ground

But a more serious problem awaited. He said he went to a nearby supercharger station to charge the battery first. The cumulative driving distance of the vehicle at the time of delivery was 15 miles, and when it arrived at the charging station 20 miles away, the cumulative driving distance was 35 miles. The author got out of the vehicle to charge and saw an unbelievable sight.

Coolant began to pour out in large quantities from the back of the vehicle. There are cases where some Tesla vehicles produce a little steam while charging, but what the author experienced was a completely different case. The author contacted the service center and explained the problem, but the answer he received was absurd. “The warranty does not cover coolant leaks,” the service center said.

It is unclear whether warranty repairs are possible

After a few more words were exchanged between the author and the service center, Tesla sent a tow truck to take the vehicle. Currently, the vehicle has arrived at the service center and has been parked, but it is unclear what exactly the problem was and whether warranty repairs will be carried out. Even though the problem occurred during production, there is still a possibility that the owner will have to bear the cost of repairs.
