Hyundai’s EV, Ioniq 5
Pickup Truck Rendering Revealed
Could be Released as a Different Model

The electric pickup truck market is gradually expanding, especially in the North American market. Of South Korean automobile manufacturers, only the Kia Tasman, which is confirmed for sale in Australia and South Korea, is being developed. The Tasman will launch with an internal combustion engine version, but an electric version will also be added. Kia is also developing a separate dedicated electric pickup truck.

But what if Hyundai adds a pickup truck model to the Ioniq lineup? A rendering of an electric pickup truck based on the Ioniq 5 is attracting attention online. Although it will be difficult for this model to be made into an actual vehicle, the Ioniq pickup truck may be added.

Two-Seater Single Cab Layout
Maintains Original Appearance as Much as Possible

Throttle House, a creator specializing in automotive CGI rendering, posted a pickup truck rendering based on Hyundai’s Ioniq 5. The shape of the front part, including the windshield, is no different from the existing one, but the sides look like a typical UTE. UTE is a derivative pickup truck that is a modified version of a sedan or SUV, and the category is active in Australia.

The first row of passenger seats is only the minimum length with no extra space at the rear. Behind it is a bulkhead and a cargo area, and the second-row doors have disappeared and been integrated into the rear quarter panel. The diagonal character lines, side skirts, and wheel arch cladding with a unique pattern naturally blend in without major changes.

Typical UTE Appearance
Why is it Difficult to Make it a Reality?

The rear part is characterized by an appearance closer to a pickup truck. The tail lamp was changed to a vertical shape to match the shape of the cargo compartment door, which must be opened as wide as possible. In the case of interior graphics, the existing pixel type was maintained to emphasize identity, and the horizontal taillights provided a sense of unity. A sliding side window was added to the center of the bulkhead glass between the passenger seat and the cargo compartment.

At the top, auxiliary brake lights are applied to increase visibility. Details such as the horizontal lines on both sides of the bumper and the lower skid plate followed the existing design as much as possible. However, since the outer panel near the loading box is integrated with the B-pillar, it is difficult to respond to distortion that occurs while driving, the tailgate position is high, and the opening range is short, which feels somewhat distant from reality.

Hyundai, which has already applied for a trademark
Plans to Launch Two Models

Meanwhile, the industry is discussing the possibility of Hyundai launching the Ioniq UTE model. This is because, on December 27, 2023, trademarks for Ioniq T7 and T10 were applied in Australia for use in automobiles, electric vehicles, trucks, and sports utilities. The trademark has currently gone through the application approval process.

So far, prototypes believed to be Hyundai Ioniq T7 and T10 have not been spotted. The industry predicts that the Ioniq T7 will be a compact pickup truck similar in weight to the Santa Cruz, and the T10 will be a mid-sized pickup truck similar to the Kia Tasman. The new vehicles will likely be launched in North America, but whether they will be released in the South Korean market is unknown.
