Cybertruck Deliveries Halted
Due to Wiper Issues
Is full Recall Possible?
The Cybertruck is considered the most anticipated vehicle in Tesla’s lineup. Although it has been more than half a year since its release, news related to the model is said to last longer thanks to its unique design and characteristics.
Most related news focuses on specific issues, and most coverage deals with defects or accidents resulting from these problems.
Forum Posts Flooded with “Delivery Delayed” Notices
On June 15, foreign media outlets, including Electrek, an American publication specializing in electric vehicles, reported that Tesla had temporarily suspended deliveries of the Cybertruck for at least a week. According to posts on the Tesla forum cited by the media, many customers who recently signed contracts for a Cybertruck were notified about delivery delays.
This delivery delay is caused by a problem with the motor that moves the windshield wiper. The Cybertruck is designed to clean the entire windshield with a large, self-sized single flap. The wiper arm of a typical car rests horizontally at the bottom of the windshield when not in operation, but the Cybertruck’s wiper arm stands vertically for aerodynamic reasons.
Malfunction even though it is not raining
There are also opposite cases
The problem is that some vehicles place wipers horizontally rather than vertically. Some say that they experienced a phenomenon in which the wipers moved on their own even when it was not raining. Electrek previously reported that automatic wiper malfunction issues appeared in most of the Tesla lineup, including the Cybertruck.
On the other hand, there were also stories of embarrassing experiences where the wipers got stuck in situations where they were supposed to work. One Cybertruck owner expressed dissatisfaction: “It started pouring rain while I was driving, and I couldn’t turn on the wipers, so I called emergency service. However, they said I had to take the car to a service center, which would take several weeks to replace the related parts.”
Past Recall Cases Highlighted
Currently, Tesla has temporarily suspended Cybertruck deliveries and is investigating the problem. Some say that all wiper motors will be replaced, and customers who recently delivered their vehicles have reportedly been asked to return them. In this case, the possibility of a recall must also be considered. Previously, Tesla recalled about 4,000 Cybertrucks in April 2024 after it was confirmed that the accelerator pedal pad could become stuck in the interior trim and cause sudden acceleration.
