Jaguar Land Rover’s slump continues
Join hands with China’s Chery to produce electric vehicle
Most likely to be a previously launched midsize SUV Freelander
Jaguar Land Rover is a traditional automobile brand with a long history. However, this is just a story of the past. It is being pushed out of the competition as it cannot show anything significant in the automobile industry. In particular, consumer trust is declining as issues related to quality and performance frequently arise.
To solve this problem, Jaguar Land Rover and China’s Chery are said to be creating a new type of vehicle. It is expected to be an electric vehicle based on the midsize SUV Freelander that was launched in the past. Let’s explore how Jaguar Land Rover, currently facing a crisis, plans to overcome this challenging situation.
Cooperation continued for 12 years
Produced on a high-performance platform
Firstly, Jaguar Land Rover has collaborated with China’s Chery Automobile for 12 years. Building on this relationship, they are launching a new project that will reportedly use Chery Automobile’s architecture and platform. In the past, Jaguar Land Rover assisted Chery with vehicle suspension settings and styling. However, this time around, Chery, with its extensive experience in electric vehicles, supports Jaguar Land Rover.
The vehicle they will jointly launch will likely be an electric version of Land Rover’s Freelander. Cherry’s E0X modular platform now supports 800V high-voltage systems, air suspension, and L3-level driving assistance systems.
Additional news on the EREV
Are there any plans for vehicles other than Freelander?
An advantage was also securing a large driving distance with less energy. It is also worth noting that it can support battery-type electric vehicles and the EREV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle). Jaguar Land Rover’s new Freelander EV is said to be sold worldwide, starting in China.
Meanwhile, Chery and Jaguar Land Rover announced they plan to produce various vehicles, including the Freelander. It will likely be a hybrid vehicle with a more than 1,000 km (621 miles) driving range and 44.5% energy efficiency, using the same M3X platform as Chery’s Exeed RX and Fulwin T9.
Will the Freelander EV revitalize Jaguar Land Rover?
Jaguar Land Rover, which was in a recession, could not enter the electric vehicle market properly and showed a seemingly evasive move. Many people expect this collaboration with Chery to lead to some recovery. In particular, China’s electric vehicle manufacturing technology is expected to be game-changing because it is recognized globally.
