Maybach is an automobile brand admired by many people around the world. Although it falls short of its previous reputation, it is still on track to meet the demands of consumers who want a more luxurious Mercedes-Benz.

However, Maybach’s new convertible model was recently unveiled online and has quickly become a topic of conversation. Initially, it was thought to be a sequel to the previously sold S650 Cabriolet model, but there was something distinctly different about it. It turns out that this is not a model developed directly by Maybach but rather a replica vehicle manufactured in Russia.

In the Maybach 6 concept car
Inspired model

This replica vehicle was inspired by the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet concept car that Maybach unveiled in 2017. The Maybach 6 concept car was inspired by the Exelero, of which Maybach produced only one car in 2005 and was created as a follow-up model. In terms of size, the length is a whopping 5.7 meters (224.4 inches), and the width is 2.1 meters (82.7 inches). After the coupe model was unveiled, the cabriolet model was unveiled.

The model was developed as an electric vehicle and demonstrated powerful performance with a maximum output of 750 horsepower and a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time of 4 seconds. The driving range is 500 km (311 miles), and 350 kW ultra-fast charging is possible, so it can run up to 100 km (62 miles) in 5 m so thates of charging. Considering that Hyundai’s electric vehicles launched in the 2020s became a hot topic because they supported 350 kW charging, it can be seen that Mercedes-Benz’s technology was ahead of others.

Built based on SL
Russian replica vehicle

The replica vehicle was produced based on the R230, the 5th generation Mercedes-Benz SL500 model, not the Maybach model. Some photos during production were unveiled, and the red SL was purchased to increase the length and move the front wheels forward to achieve a long wheelbase. In addition, parts such as grills and headlamps were manufactured and assembled. They even obtained and installed the wheels used in the concept car themselves.

The Maybach 6 concept car is an electric car, so it does not have a muffler, but the replica car is an internal combustion engine car based on the SL, so a dual muffler is applied to the rear. As there is no special mention of the powertrain, the 5.0-liter naturally aspirated engine installed in the SL500 is expected to be used as is. In the case of the powertrain, it produces 387 horsepower and 54.0 kg.m and is equipped with a 7-speed automatic transmission. Blue was used for the exterior, and cream leather was used for the interior.

It seems more authentic than the actual model
Eye on high quality

The Maybach 6 concept car attracted attention when unveiled, but it did not reach mass production. Of course, the S650 Cabriolet was later sold in a limited edition of 300 units, but it did not reach the capabilities of the Maybach 6 concept car. Although the existence of the Russian replica car that has been making headlines makes no sense, its significance seems to be that it resolves many of these regrets.

It is a high-quality replica vehicle that we can believe is more realistic than the real thing. No information yet is available on whether the vehicle will remain in private ownership or be sold. Of course, nothing is known about the price either. However, the price will be higher than expected if it is sold.
