Renault, the master of subcompact and compact vehicles
Megane Grand Coupe relaunched
Surprisingly cheap?
Renault is a French automaker famous for making subcompact and compact vehicles. Their subcompact and compact vehicles are receiving great recognition worldwide, and the most highly regarded model is the Megane. Even the RS model is comparable to the Volkswagen Golf GTI, called the hot hatch model.
On June 14, 2024, Renault unveiled the Grand Coupe, a derivative of the Megane. The most surprising thing is the price. This time, we will find detailed information about Renault’s newly launched Megane Grand Coupe 2024.
Discontinued after the 2nd generation
The sedan model was relaunched
In the case of the Megane Grand Coupe, when you hear the name, you might think of a sleek coupe model, but it is a regular sedan model. In addition, it is not an entirely new model but a relaunch of a model that was discontinued after the 2nd generation. In the case of Megane, there was a sedan lineup that started with the first generation model. Still, due to the characteristics of the European market that values practicality, the sedan model with declining sales was discontinued, beginning with the third-generation model.
The relaunched Megane Grand Coupe will be sold without significant changes from the 4th generation Megane facelift model launched in 2020. This appears to be because the original model, the Megane, was discontinued entirely after undergoing electrification. This may be unavoidable since there is no base model, but it feels somewhat unfortunate that it was released as is without any noticeable changes.
Equipped with Renault 1.3L turbo
The relaunched Megane Grand Coupe will be equipped with Renault’s 1.3L gasoline turbo engine, which has been adjusted to deliver 140 horsepower, taking into account the vehicle’s size. The engine will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).
For Eastern European Market
Megane Grand Coupe is sold only as a sedan
As briefly mentioned above, the Megane was discontinued as of April 2024. In the era of electric vehicles, the 5th generation full-change model was launched as an electric vehicle-only model in 2022. The vehicle type also changed from a hatchback to a compact SUV. Therefore, it should be considered a different vehicle; it only carries Megane.
However, there has been a steady demand for the Megane sedan model in Eastern Europe, so Renault plans to relaunch it this time. It will be produced at the Turkiye plant and sold throughout Eastern Europe. The selling price of the model is said to be around $20,000.
