BMW has outstanding technology not only for sedans but also for SUVs. Based on its experience acquiring Land Rover, the company still produces SUVs with excellent ride comfort and performance. Its lineup is diverse, from small SUVs to large SUVs. In particular, the midsize SUV X5 is the most popular model in BMW’s SUV lineup and has performance that other competing vehicles cannot easily match.

This time, BMW unveiled a special model to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the launch of the X5. It is said to have enhanced off-road performance compared to the existing model and a sophisticated exterior color. Let’s find out what is noticeably different from the existing model.

The image of an urban SUV was strong, but…
This model has strong off-road tendencies

The newly launched 25th Anniversary Silver Edition, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the X5, is based on the 2025 BMW X5 xDrive 40i. This special edition stands out because it has a higher ground clearance than the standard model and includes an off-road package, making it stronger. While the existing X5 was known as a luxury SUV designed primarily for city driving, this new edition offers a different look, emphasizing enhanced off-road capabilities.

The two-axle air suspension, which includes a mechanical rear differential lock and additional underbody protection, allows it to fulfill the role of an off-road SUV easily. Four new driving modes, including xSnow, xSand, xGravel, and xRocks, have been added and can be adapted to suit the environment.

In addition, an off-road camera that shows the surroundings at 35 km/h (21.7 mph), a roof rack, and a trailer hitch are also applied. You can tell at a glance that it is an off-road vehicle just by looking at the exterior of BMW’s X5 25th Anniversary Edition, which will be used under the xOffrodad package. It can be said that it is a trim that combines some elements of the existing M Sports and Sports packages.

Off-road vehicles are always launched with excellent performance, but many models are disappointing as demand is lower than expected. In particular, BMW was far from an orthodox off-roader. Still, some say it has gained further off-road SUV experience by launching the X5 25th Anniversary Silver Anniversary model.

Limited production of 1,000 units is planned
Start making off-roaders?

The official stated that the X5 model will be produced in a limited run of about 1,000 units. Production is set to begin in August 2024, and the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) is $79,900, plus a $1,175 fee for destination and handling.

Many people are considering whether BMW can take one step closer to producing off-road SUVs through this X5 special edition. It is noteworthy that BMW, which continues to launch great vehicles, from sedans to SUVs, will be able to achieve the task of electrification and pioneer the off-road SUV market at the same time.
