Long and smooth lines
The unique features of large coupes
looked at the three representative models
Vehicles often represent dreams, serving as tangible benchmarks for abstract aspirations. There are luxury sedans known for their smooth driving feel, spacious SUVs that can accommodate many passengers, and sports cars that promise thrilling drives. Each type reflects the diversity of what we dream about when considering the ideal vehicle.
A large coupe might be the ideal choice for enthusiasts who desire the sleek silhouette of a sports car and the driving comfort of a luxury sedan. Such a coupe ideally features a genuine two-door configuration, eschewing a second row that serves only decorative purposes. This makes it a dream vehicle for those who appreciate both aesthetics and performance. Let’s delve into three large coupe types that exemplify these dream vehicle qualities.
The S-Class, streamlined into a coupe, is unfortunately currently discontinued
The first model is the Mercedes-Benz S Class Coupe model. This model is also the successor to the coupe model previously called CL, as Mercedes-Benz reorganized its lineup. In the case of the lineup, it ranges from 6 cylinders to 12 cylinders. The 9th generation standard price starts at about $118,450.
The S-Class Coupe, known for its sleek silhouette, was phased out with the launch of the 10th generation S-Class. From this generation onward, only sedans are being sold; the SL model has replaced the cabriolet, and the AMG GT has taken over the coupe role. Although the distinctive design of the 9th generation S-Class Coupe is no longer available, the models that have succeeded it still boast impressive performance.
The BMW 8 Series coupe offers a different flavor than the Mercedes
The 8 Series may be unfamiliar to some consumers. However, this model is not a newborn model. The 6 Series and 8 Series aimed to be grand tourers and high-performance sports cars, respectively. The 8 Series was produced from 1989 to 1999 and gradually discontinued as BMW focused on the 6 Series. To compete with Mercedes-Benz’s large luxury coupe SL in the future, BMW revived the 8 Series after about 20 years.
This is how the second-generation 8 Series, which can be seen on the roads today, was born. There are a variety of models, including coupes, convertibles, and four-door Gran Coupes. In the case of the revived 8 Series, it takes on the role of BMW’s flagship coupe and features a diverse engine lineup. The 8 Series ranges from a silky smooth 6-cylinder to a powerful 8-cylinder model.
Top luxury coupe
Bentley Continental GT
Bentley, a name synonymous with luxury, offers a standout coupe model: the Continental GT, which embodies the Grand Tourer concept. Bentley has named its coupe-type vehicles “Continental,” a tradition that dates back to the launch of the Mark 4 in 1953. This lineage underscores Bentley’s commitment to blending luxury with performance in its coupe designs.
It is sleek and round and has a lavish yet sharp impression. On June 25, 2024, the new generation model, Continental GT Speed, was launched. Instead of the existing 8-cylinder and 12-cylinder engine lineup, it is equipped with an 8-cylinder hybrid engine, delivering a monster-like performance of 782 horsepower. It only takes about 3 seconds to reach 100 km/h from a standstill.
