Can Toyota’s bZ4x Overcome Its Complex Name to Win Over Consumers?

Japanese Toyota electric SUV bZ4x
Finally, news of its launch in South Korea has arrived
What features does this model have?

Japanese vehicles feature high perfection and reliability, but despite their technological power, they do not sell well in South Korea. Several Japanese cars that South Korean consumers recognize are hybrid and SUV vehicles.

Japan, which has advanced hybrid technology, is somewhat slow in electric vehicle manufacturing technology compared to other countries. However, as they continue to develop new electric vehicles, Japanese automobile manufacturers are trying to enter the electric vehicle market in earnest. Let’s take a quick look at the features.

A Typical Let’sct SUV Size
Reliable Performance and Practicality

The bZ4x, Toyota’s first vehicle under bZ (Beyond Zero) of its electric vehicle lineup, is a coToyota’sectric SUV already sold in the Japanese, Chinese, and American markets. It is similar in size to the RAV4 but has a longer wheelbase. Applying the e-TNGA platform jointly developed with Subaru, a battery capacity of 71.4 kWh can secure a driving range of up to 500 km (311 miles) based on WLTP.

Consumers can choose between a front-wheel drive model and a four-wheel drive model, with outputs of 204 horsepower and 218 horsepower, respectively. Among Japanese vehicles, it features a sophisticated interior layout, and as expected from an SUV, its cargo capacity is 452L, which is not lacking.

Complex Name, Impact on Sales?
There are complaints from overseas

However, the disadvantages are also apparent. First of all, it is difficult to call the name. Although it was released as bZ4x with its meaning, it is difficult for consumers to call it, and it is not simple, so it feels challenging to impress consumers. The wheel bolt fastening defect that occurred after launch was also controversial at one time, so this defect issue cannot be ignored.

However, it is not critical since the above fastening defect issue often occurs in other manufacturers. According to the opinions of major buyers worldwide, the biggest drawback of bZ4x is its difficult-to-understand name and price, which is more expensive than expected. In the U.S. market, it can be purchased starting at $44,000, but it is considered a bit pricey compared to its performance.

Successful due to the high demands

The South Korean market is slightly different from the American market, so there is a prevailing opinion that it can be surprisingly successful. In particular, it is based on the possibility that it will be able to take advantage of the recently emerging popularity of compact and mid-sized SUVs in South Korea. Moreover, Japanese vehicles are highly popular, and loyal customers purchase them regularly, so it seems important to sell them to them.

However, if it is launched in South Korea, sales success may be determined by trim and option configuration. The results are expected to vary depending on the extent to which the price of around $40,000 is adjusted. Last year, news confirmed the possibility of a launch in the South Korean market, but no additional information has been provided yet.
