When it comes to off-road vehicles, one brand immediately stands out: Land Rover. As its name suggests, Land Rover is synonymous with powerful performance on rugged terrain. This iconic British automobile brand is celebrating its 76th anniversary this year. Known for its all-weather off-road capabilities and often hailed as the master of off-road driving, Land Rover has announced the new flagship model in its off-roader lineup, the Defender.
The Defender with the most powerful performance ever is called All New Defender OCTA. The octahedron shape of the hardest and rarest diamond on earth inspired the name Octa. True to its name, diamond graphics were applied throughout the interior and exterior as if symbolizing the new flagship Defender. “This signature graphic is crucial because it defines future Defender models,” explained Mark Cameron, Defender managing director.

Zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in Just 3.8 Seconds
As its name suggests, the all-new Defender Octa boasts powerful performance. It is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that produces 626 horsepower, which was expected before launch. Additionally, it is equipped with the best-in-class 6D dynamic air suspension. An 8-speed automatic transmission and a 48V mild hybrid system were combined. As a result, the best performance can be achieved in any terrain.
Based on its powerful performance, it takes only 3.8 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph), and the maximum speed can reach 250 km/h (155 mph). Land Rover’s off-road performance is also the strongest of the company’s best-in-class on-road performance. It underwent 13,960 tests to prove its off-road performance. It has also traveled more than 600,000 miles in challenging and diverse conditions worldwide, including dunes and ice circuits.

Specs Improved Over Previous Model
The all-new Defender Octa’s maximum torque increases to 81.6 kg.m when using the vehicle’s dedicated driving mode, Octa Mode. The wading depth increased by 100 mm (3.9 inches) compared to the previous version, allowing wading up to 1,005 mm (39.6 inches). The ground clearance was increased by 28 mm (1.1 inches) compared to the benchmarked Defender 110V8, resulting in a maximum ground clearance of 319 mm (12.6 inches). The maximum refractive index increased from 430 mm (16.9 inches) in the 110 model to 569 mm (22.4 inches). The body’s width is also wider by 68.8 mm (2.7 inches).
The design of the bottom of the front bumper was also changed, and the maximum approach angle increased from 37.5 degrees to 40 degrees. The departure angle was increased from 40 to 42 degrees, and the climb angle was increased from 27.9 degrees to 29 degrees, significantly improving. The grille was also newly designed, considering air resistance. In addition, it has reinforced cross arms, an active damper exclusive to the Octa, and a 33-inch wheel and exhaust system developed exclusively for the Defender Octa.

A Land Rover official stated that the All-New Defender Octa exemplifies the company’s pinnacle of technological innovation and design philosophy. He added that this model would offer a unique driving experience to customers. There is considerable anticipation for the launch of this new Land Rover model, which is noted for its excellence not only off-road but also on regular roads. The all-new Defender Octa, unveiled on July 2, will be produced in a limited run of 1,070 units.
