BMW is preparing a full redesign of its flagship SUV, the X5. Recently, the new X5 model, still clad in camouflage, has been frequently spotted overseas. In response, major foreign automobile media outlets rapidly report the model’s current status.

Among the spy shots of the new X5, the most eye-catching part is definitely the side. Typically, nothing is applied to the area where the door handle should be. Instead, an electronic lever hidden in the pillar stands out. This form was applied to the Ferrari SUV model Purosangue and Ford Mustang Mach e.
Let’s discuss the overall design. The lamp and grille shown in the Neue Klasse were confirmed for the front part. A larger air intake was used for the bumper to create a clean and wide feel.

Difficult to Determine the Rear
What does the side part look like? The gently falling lines, long wheelbase typical of a large SUV, and dark character lines are noticeable. In particular, as mentioned earlier, the lip plates applied to the B and C pillars appear to replace the existing door handles.
The tail lamp design at the rear is difficult to determine due to temporary parts. As it is a test car, it is expected that it is not equipped with a mass-produced tail lamp. Therefore, it is still difficult to confirm the overall outline. The license plate location was moved down toward the rear bumper. Overall, it creates the impression that it is clean, just like the image on the front.

Official Launch Expected in 2026
The new BMW X5 is expected to include three powertrains, including gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and the pure electric vehicle iX5. It will also be built on the same platform as the new 5 series and i5, previously launched in South Korea. The grille is blocked, so the front fender and the muffler’s charging port are not visible. There is a high probability that the X5 model captured by Carscoops is an electric vehicle.
There is still no official announcement about the new X5 and iX5 launch. According to the industry, in this case, it is expected to debut as a 2027 model in the second half of 2026. Previously, as the designs of the iX3 and X3 full-change models were revealed, consumer expectations for the next X5 series are growing.
