Porsche Gears Up for New SUV
Recently, the actual test vehicle began to be spotted
But the price information is unusual?
The automobile market is witnessing a significant surge in SUV sales, a trend that even supercar and luxury vehicle brands embrace. Porsche, a brand synonymous with luxury, set a precedent by introducing the Cayenne, which has become a cornerstone model for the brand. Following the Cayenne’s success, the Macan added a compact and edgy appeal to Porsche’s lineup. There’s a buzz about a new addition: the upper model SUV codenamed K1, which is currently under development by Porsche. As test scenes of this model are frequently captured, public anticipation for news about this new Porsche model is high.
First 3-row Porsche?
The key is whether it can accommodate seven passengers
Motor1 recently revealed a rendering of Porsche’s new mass-produced SUV, K1. The three rows of seats slightly visible through the C-pillar window are a hot topic. Also, the sleek silhouette at the back stands out for a three-row SUV. The roof line and angle are close to the Cayenne Coupe, and the gap between the second and third rows seems somewhat narrow.
Given the past sharp criticism directed at the Cayenne, it’s likely that the K1 will also face its share of scrutiny. However, there’s a glimmer of hope. Can the 3-row match the Porsche’s sensibility? Porsche, renowned as the best sports car manufacturer, has a rich history in motorsports. The 911, a beloved daily sports car, is a testament to this. The burning question is, “Can an SUV equipped with three rows truly embody the spirit of a Porsche sports car?”
Judging from the rendering
Seating seven seems impossible
Based on the concept images revealed by Motor1, the initial reaction suggests that fitting 6-7 people in the vehicle might be impractical. It resembles a Cayenne Coupe with a slightly elongated midsection, and accessing the third-row seats via the second row doesn’t align with Porsche’s typical style.
Despite these concerns, there’s a noticeable sense of anticipation online. If the K1 is launched as envisioned would mark Porsche’s entry into the three-row SUV market. Since the 911 has become progressively smoother with each generation, moving toward a trend of everyday sports cars that mimic the driving feel of a luxury sedan, introducing a three-row SUV isn’t out of the question for Porsche.
The world is paying attention to K1
Looking at the various specifications
Rumors are spreading that the K1 will use a 920 V electrical system that enables faster charging than existing vehicles. It will also be equipped with a large capacity battery pack exceeding 100 kWh. Based on WLTP, the driving distance on a single charge is said to be about 700 km (435 miles). Additionally, rear-wheel steering, a common option for large SUVs, will be installed.
Foreign media predict that the K1 will be three times more expensive than the Cayenne. There is also news that it will be developed based on PPE (Premium Platform Electric: Platform dedicated to luxurious advanced electric vehicles), jointly developed by Audi and Porsche. Attention is being paid to whether the K1 will succeed in mass production and complete the Porsche SUV lineup along with the Macan and Cayenne.
