Cadillac, America’s representative auto brand, finally unveiled the Escalade IQ
But is the price surprising?
One of the key challenges shared by traditional automobile brands, many of which boast at least a hundred years of history, is the shift toward electrification. This transition has become an essential task for these brands. A notable example is Cadillac, General Motors’ luxury vehicle brand, navigating this shift while maintaining its established luxury value.
Cadillac, once a symbol of the American dream recognized globally, has faced significant hurdles recently. The oil crisis heavily impacted the brand, suffering from the broader management struggles of its parent company, General Motors. These challenges caused Cadillac to lose ground to German luxury car brands. Now, Cadillac is poised for a resurgence, signaling new changes and directions in its approach.
Cadillac, pouring its energy into electrification, makes a grand finale with the Escalade IQ
Cadillac has been vigorously working to regain its competitive edge against the stronghold of German luxury vehicles. Cadillac’s strategic arsenal wields three “sharpened swords” to carve its way back into prominence. The first is the Lyriq, followed by the Celestiq, and the third, widely anticipated, is the Escalade IQ.
The Escalade is a massive vehicle. This model is one of the vehicles developed based on GM’s full-size platform, which is the same as the Chevrolet Tahoe, and has dimensions of 5,382 mm (211.9 inches) in length, 1,948 mm (76.7 inches) in height, 2,059 mm (81.1 inches) in width, and 3,071 mm (120.9 inches) in wheelbase. However, the Escalade IQ is larger than the regular Escalade model. The model’s size specifications are larger in all directions, with a length of 5,697 mm (224.3 inches), a height of 1,934 mm (76.1 inches), a width of 2,389 mm (94.1 inches), and a wheelbase of 3,460 mm (136.2 inches). In particular, in the case of the wheelbase, it achieved a remarkable increase of 389 mm (15.3 inches).
The luxury of overwhelming size, the expected price is around $130,000
The exterior design feels like it adds futuristic elements to the design seen in the existing Escalade. Instead of the vast shield-shaped grille that Cadillac models have shown, a black crystal shield continues the brand identity. In addition, the latest design language adopted by Cadillac electric vehicles, such as headlamps, has been actively reflected.
The interior is luxurious, like a premium brand, and spacious, like a full-size SUV. The 55-inch curved display that stretches from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat catches the eye. The spacious rear seat space created by the vast body size even creates the illusion that it is a campervan. So what about the price of the Escalade IQ? Although it is still an estimate, according to the industry, the base price for this model is expected to be around $130,000.
Escalade IQ also has powerful performance. This is because a dual motor with a maximum output of 680 horsepower and a maximum torque of 85.4 kgm. f is applied as standard. The rear-wheel steering function significantly reduces the turning radius, and air suspension, which helps with comfortable and smooth driving, is also standard. The distance that can be driven once is about 730 km (454 miles), according to General Motors’ official estimate, and it is said that it can be driven about 160 km (99 miles) with 10 minutes of charging through a public DC fast charger.
