A prototype of BMW’s X5 model was recently spotted during a road test. The X5, a mid-sized SUV, is one of the brand’s most popular models, given its popularity alongside the 3 Series.
Russian automobile media outlet Kolesa released a rendering based on spy shots of the prototype. The rendering maintains the familiar proportions of the X5, such as the long hood, extended wheelbase, and relatively large rear overhang. However, the design has been completely revamped. The new model is expected to be introduced under BMW’s electric vehicle design framework, adopting the distinct aesthetic of the Neue Klasse family.
Controversial Kidney Grille

First, the most noticeable part of the front is the kidney grille, which has been changed to a horizontal design. The kidney grille and thinner headlights are also integrated to emphasize the vehicle’s width. The front view seen through the spy shot shows that the grille size is tiny, and this can be seen through the rendering, which shows that the bottom of the grille is hidden by camouflage.
The X5 captured this time also failed to avoid the kidney grille issue, the center of BMW’s recent controversy. Recently, BMW showed off its charisma with an overwhelming appearance by gradually increasing the size of the kidney grille. Still, now it has become too large, so there is an increasing number of responses that it is excessive. However, in the case of this X5, unlike recently launched BMW vehicles, a small, narrow, and long kidney grille was applied. Netizens who saw this responded with comments such as It looks petty and pitiful.

Like recent BMW vehicles, the rear case had wide tail lamps and diagonal DRLs that seemed to flow into the rear fender. Also, the tailgate center parting line was confirmed to border the tail lamp. Therefore, a clamshell-type tailgate is expected to be applied in this X5.
The skid plate diffuser detail at the bottom of the bumper and the vertical reflector details attached to both ends of the bumper create a sporty image. Also, the door handle is not visible on the side, but it has been replaced with an electronic switch near the pillar, creating a neat look.

When is the revealing date?
The recently captured X5 model showcases BMW’s Neue Klasse design, which is applied to internal combustion engines and electric vehicles. This strategy is a departure from the one used for the X3, where the Neue Klasse design was only implemented in electric variants. BMW plans to continue favoring gasoline engines over diesel in its future models.
