launches an affordable coupe SUV
Does it resemble a BMW X6 at first glance?
Tata, India’s leading automobile brand known for producing low-cost vehicles in the Indian market, has recently unveiled the mass-produced model of the new CURVV. This model, introduced by Tata, is derived from the Curvv concept unveiled in 2023. It is a subcompact coupe-type SUV developed based on that concept car.
The CURVV’s design features lines quite similar to those of the Renault Arkana, and at first glance, it resembles the BMW X6. In terms of size, it is comparable to other vehicles in the same segment, such as Kia’s Seltos and Hyundai’s Kona. However, the CURVV distinguishes itself with a unique and distinctive design.
The compact size of a small SUV
But luxurious design
Looking at the CURVV’s design in detail, it is a compact small SUV with dimensions of 4,308 mm (169.6 inches) in length, 1,810 mm (71.3 inches) in width, and 1,630 mm (64.2 inches) in height. The front features a long LED bar above the grille, a design element common in other Tata models. The headlights are similar to those on Tata Motors models like the Harrier and Safari, and the grille has a metal-embroidered design with a black piano finish.
The side profile showcases flush-type door handles and 18-inch diamond-cut wheels, adding a touch of luxury. At the rear, the long LED tail lamps set on piano black slats contribute to a futuristic and upscale look. The thick bumper reinforces the vehicle’s SUV identity while complementing the sleek, coupe-like lines that attract consumers.
There are three powertrains
But the output is disappointing
The powertrain is divided into a 1,200cc gasoline turbo engine, a 1,500cc diesel turbo engine, and an EV model. Among them, there appear to be two options for the EV model, with a range option of up to 500 km (311 miles) available. There are three types of transmission: manual transmission, AMT (automated manual transmission), and DCT automatic transmission.
Even if it is a low-priced vehicle, this powertrain feels quite disappointing. Just looking at the Kia Seltos in the same segment mentioned above, a 1,600 cc gasoline turbo engine was applied. In terms of output, it is clearly inferior to vehicles in the same segment.
By far, the most notable aspect of the CURVV is its price. The Tata CURVV is scheduled for sale on August 7, 2024.
