In the case of a minor’s drunk driving accident, the punishment is only a letter of reflection?
It turns out he is from a famous conglomerate family

In Pune, Maharashtra, India, a severe car accident involving a Porsche traveling at 240 km/h (149 mph) resulted in tragic fatalities. A woman riding on the back of a motorcycle died at the scene, and the male motorcycle driver later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The driver of the Porsche, a 17-year-old who was intoxicated at the time of the accident, was arrested for drunk driving.

The teenager was subsequently handed over to the Juvenile Justice Commission. Despite the severity of the incident, he was released on bail after 15 hours. He received a lenient sentence of 15 days of community service and an assignment to write a 300-word reflection paper about the traffic accident. The public in India expressed significant outrage over the light punishment, especially after it was disclosed that the young man was the son of a prominent real estate tycoon.

Public Outcry Leads to Delayed Arrest

As revelations emerged about the affluent background of the young driver, public criticism intensified. Many voiced concerns over perceived inequalities in justice, encapsulated in the outcry, “If a person is rich, is he without sin, and if he is poor, is he guilty?” Rahul Gandhi, leader of India’s main opposition Congress party, sharply criticized the leniency shown to the wealthy, questioning whether the same rules applied to less privileged individuals: “The son of the rich can drink, drive a Porsche, cause an accident, and submit an essay—that’s it! Will they do the same to bus drivers?”

Following persistent public outrage, Indian authorities took further action. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced the arrest of the father of the juvenile driver, holding him accountable for the accident. Additionally, the police took action against the company that provided alcohol to the minor. Commissioner Kumar emphasized the commitment to justice, stating, “We will do our best to ensure that those who provided alcohol to the perpetrator, as well as the defendant who ruined the poor victim’s reputation, are properly punished.”

Public opinion calls for severe punishment due to the arrogant behavior of the son of a conglomerate

Regarding this incident, the victim’s family cried, saying, “This is not a simple accident. This is closer to murder.” In an interview with the press, the victim’s mother claimed that the reason she could not see her son again was because of Mr. A and that if he had not made the mistake, everyone would have been okay, so this case was murder.

The victim’s mother also demanded severe punishment. “If the parents had raised their son properly, this incident would not have happened. It was improper parenting to let a minor son drive the car,” she said. And, “I want justice, not compensation. I want the perpetrators and their parents to be severely punished,” she added.
