New Model Y design leak
For the rear, it has more changes than expected
Looks like it has horizontal lamps
Tesla’s Model Y remains a strong performer in South Korea, with sales exceeding 10,000 units in the first half of 2024. Although the electric vehicle market is currently experiencing a downturn, this is widely seen as a temporary dip during the transition to electric vehicles.
Consumer interest in electric vehicles remains high, especially in popular models like the Model Y. Recently, a prototype of the facelifted Model Y, known internally as “Juniper,” was spotted, and some of its design details have been leaked.
The rear end features a black garnish, and a small camera can also be seen inside
As information about the refreshed Model Y surfaces, consumer anticipation rises, despite Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s earlier statement that no new launches would occur in 2024. The leaked details include photos of the rear design and some interior elements.
The new rear design features a horizontal bar-shaped tail lamp with Tesla’s lettering positioned above it. The top of the tail lamp is finished with a black garnish that houses a small camera. Before the leak, there was considerable speculation that the rear design might follow the changes seen in the new Model 3. However, the appearance of a new tail lamp suggests a significant design overhaul for the Model Y.
The rendering of the new Model Y has been revealed
Changes have been made to the side of the tail lamp
Given that this is a prototype and there is still time before its official launch, it’s uncertain whether this leaked design will make it to the final production model. The leaked photos have led to a rendering of the rear design, which features horizontal tail lamps that span across the tailgate. Additionally, changes to the sides of the rear have been suggested, though these have not yet been confirmed.
The side of the tail lamp seems to draw inspiration from the new Model 3, featuring a sharp, ㄷ shape at the end. This horizontal lamp, which has appeared in earlier leaks, includes a distinctive rounded end that stands out. Following the reveal of the rear design, the front has also been analyzed through previously captured prototypes and renderings.
The changes to the front and interior appear similar to the new Model 3
A Model Y prototype recently spotted with its front and rear covered in camouflage shows only minor visible changes on the sides. The major updates are anticipated to be focused on the front and rear, which remain obscured. The front is expected to feature design modifications, including thinner headlights and revised bumper shapes, similar to the updates seen in the new Model 3.
The interior of the new Model Y showcases ambient lighting that extends to the door trim, mirroring the design elements found in the new Model 3. It also features an updated steering wheel and a large 15.4-inch display. This leak has sparked speculation about the launch date of the new Model Y. Given that the new Model 3 was introduced approximately 6 to 7 months after its camouflaged prototype was first spotted, the latest Model Y is anticipated to debut in the first quarter of 2025.
