Pagani’s Utopia
The Roadster model has been unveiled
Italian handcrafted supercar manufacturer Pagani has unveiled its latest masterpiece: the Utopia Roadster, a stunning addition to its supercar lineup. This roadster model beautifully blends the classic design elements of Pagani’s past icons, the Zonda and Huayra, while retaining the core aesthetics of the Utopia coupe—minus the roof.
One of the Utopia Roadster’s standout features is its impressive weight management. Unlike most roadsters, which tend to be heavier than their coupe counterparts due to the need for additional structural reinforcement, the Utopia Roadster maintains the same weight as the coupe model. Pagani achieved this by enhancing the rigidity of the Carbo-Titanum monocoque structure. Instead of merely adding weight for safety, Pagani’s engineers meticulously refined the design to boost rigidity without increasing the overall mass. This approach ensures that the Utopia Roadster delivers the same thrilling performance as its fixed-roof sibling.
Despite being a roadster, it weighs the same as the coupe model
The Pagani Utopia’s dry weight is around 1,280 kg (2,822 lbs), which is impressive, especially compared to the controversial M5, which tips the scales at about 2,400 kg (5,291 lbs). Pagani designed the Utopia as both a coupe and a roadster, using carbon fiber extensively in both versions. This includes the monocoque, suspension, and brakes, with the roadster even featuring the coupe’s distinctive butterfly doors.
The Utopia comes with a removable hardtop that has its own display stand. However, it’s too large to store in the vehicle itself. You might wonder, “What happens if it rains unexpectedly?” Fortunately, the Utopia includes a soft top that can be neatly packed in a bag between the seats. These thoughtful details ensure you’re prepared for sudden weather changes.
The Utopia boasts an impressive performance with the application of AMG’s V12 engine
It even offers a manual transmission option
The performance of Utopia is tremendous. It uses the 6.0L V12 engine of the Mercedes-Benz AMG and produces 864 horsepower and 112.2 kgf.m of torque without the help of an electric motor. The top speed is 354 km/h (220 mph) for the coupe model and 349 km/h (217 mph), 5 km/h (3.1 mph) lower for the roadster model. It takes about 3.1 seconds to go from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph). Another attraction of the Utopia is the option of a manual transmission. We can choose between a 7-speed automated manual or a 7-speed manual transmission.
Looking at the Utopia steering wheel may look ordinary at first glance, but it was made by milling a single block of aluminum weighing nearly 4,300 kg (9,480 pounds) for 28 hours to create a steering wheel that weighs only 1.5 kg (3.3 pounds). Also notable are the checkered seats, which Pagani calls Huayra Signature leather. Also unique is that the Utopia’s key is shaped like Utopia, and there is a key holder in the center console.
The price is set at approximately $ 3.3 million
Limited to 130 units
Pagani also equipped the Utopia with an active suspension system and forged aluminum wheels of different sizes: 21 inches in the front and 22 inches in the rear. It also features Pirelli’s cyber tires, which provide data for the stability and traction control systems.
The Utopia, with the Sports Pack, is set to debut at Monterey Car Week, running from August 9 to 18, 2024. The starting price is anticipated to be over $3.3 million. Pagani also revealed plans to produce a limited edition of just 130 Utopia Roadsters.
