The Longest Vehicles Special Feature
Limited to Regular Production Vehicles
We Collected Six Models by Type
Since the rise of the automobile industry and the advent of mass production, numerous efforts have been made to create larger vehicles. The largest vehicle ever built is the modified limousine known as the “American Dream,” which is 30.5 meters (1,200.7 inches) in length.
However, companies could create even larger vehicles with sufficient budget and ambition. So, what are the longest mass-produced vehicles ever made available for general sale? Let’s explore some of the longest mass-produced vehicles by body type.
6th Place: Cadillac Escalade ESV
5th Place: Pontiac Grand Safari
The Cadillac Escalade ESV holds the title of the longest SUV. While the standard Cadillac Escalade measures 5,382 mm (211.9 inches) in length, the Escalade ESV extends to 5,766 mm (227.0 inches), making it notably longer.
In the wagon category, the Pontiac Grand Safari stands out. Produced in two generations from 1971 to 1978, the 1972 model was already quite large, measuring 5,791 mm (228.0 inches). The longest model, however, was the final version of the first generation, manufactured from 1974 to 1976, which reached a length of 5,875 mm (231.3 inches).
4th Place: Imperial LeBaron Coupe 1973
3rd Place: Mercedes Maybach S650 Pullman
Chrysler’s luxury brand Imperial produced the largest two-door coupe ever made: the 1973 Imperial LeBaron Coupe. Measuring 5,977 mm (235.3 inches) in length, it surpasses even the four-door sedan models. This vehicle is renowned for its elegant proportions, including its length, front and rear overhangs, roofline, pillar angles, and wheelbase.
The title for the longest-production sedan goes to the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Pullman. This model, an extended version of the W222 S650, stretches to 6,515 mm (256.5 inches) in length with a wheelbase of 4,418 mm (174.0 inches). Inside, the rear compartment is divided by a bulkhead, offering luxurious space for six passengers with two additional seats.
2nd Place: Ford F350 Super Duty
1st Place: Volkswagen Grand California 680
American cars dominate the rankings, particularly in the pickup truck category. In the U.S., where large pickups are popular, the Ford F-350 Super Duty stands out with a size that could almost be classified as a commercial truck. With various configurations based on passenger and cargo space, the most extensive version—featuring a crew cab and an 8-foot bed—measures an impressive 6,761 mm (266.2 inches) in length.
Volkswagen is the longest vehicle in mass production. The Grand California camper van, built on the Crafter commercial van platform, takes this honor. Depending on the model, which is named 600 or 680 based on its length, the Grand California 680 stretches to 6,836 mm (269.1 inches).
