The safety agency in the US has identified
58 of the safest vehicles
with Toyota vehicles taking the lead
Parents want children to drive in safe vehicles when they become adults and get their driver’s licenses. Some parents may also be considering buying a vehicle for their children.
For these parents, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Consumer Reports (CR) in the US have released a list of safe vehicles that have passed rigorous tests. Japanese vehicles are said to have performed exceptionally well, which is a hot topic.
Toyota vehicles top the list of safest vehicles
The US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has unveiled the 58 vehicles that passed its upgraded crash tests for 2024. All cars on the list received Good or Acceptable ratings in the IIHS driver-side small overlap test and four other tests.
All 58 vehicles received passing marks from Consumer Reports (CR) for braking, handling, and reliability. The list of safest vehicles included the Chevrolet Equinox, Volvo XC60, Kia Sportage, and Mazda CX-5. Japanese brand vehicles were the most numerous, and Toyota vehicles were the most numerous.
Toyota Camry 9th generation
Launched in May 2024
Toyota’s flagship models, the Camry and Prius, were also included in the list of safest vehicles. Front-wheel-drive models will feature a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that produce 225 horsepower. In contrast, all-wheel-drive models will add a third motor to drive the rear axle, increasing total output to 232 horsepower.
It has been updated as the 2025 model. The front of the Camry has been given a new grille while still featuring Toyota’s signature hammerhead-shaped daytime running lights. Also, the dashboard and center console have been completely redesigned for the interior, with the dashboard design highlighted by a large trim piece extending from the passenger seat to the infotainment display. The Camry’s price starts at $28,845.
The Prius has been equipped with a lithium-ion battery
The Toyota Prius is available in two versions: a standard hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. The Prius hybrid features a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 194 horsepower and is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. The Prius plug-in hybrid, Toyota’s first model with a 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid system, boasts a total output of 223 horsepower. This represents an approximate 80% increase in power compared to the previous plug-in hybrid model.
Thanks to its 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery, the Prius plug-in hybrid can travel up to 64 km (40 miles) on pure electric power. One of the standout features of the fifth-generation Prius is its dramatically sloping A-pillar, which shifts the highest point of the roof toward the rear, giving the vehicle a sleek, sporty silhouette. The new model uses the lightweight second-generation TNGA platform, designed with a low center of gravity to enhance body rigidity. The Prius has a starting sticker price of $29,045
