What is the fate of a used Mercedes-Benz vehicle?

Car tuning allows owners to express their personality and enhance performance. Dress-up tuning, which focuses on decorating a vehicle’s exterior, often aims to personalize a car beyond its original design.

While tastes in car customization vary widely, a recently tuned car with a particularly striking appearance has attracted attention. We investigated its listing as a used car and whether a new owner has come forward.

Auto Evolution recently highlighted a used Mercedes-Benz SL500 listed on Facebook Marketplace. Originally a 2004 model known for its sleek design, this car has undergone extensive tuning, leaving its original features almost unrecognizable.

The seller described the vehicle as “a beautiful Mercedes-Benz in excellent condition,” with no mechanical defects and a clean history. With only 60,000 miles (about 96,560 km) on the clock, the car’s mileage is relatively low for its age. Priced at $9,500, it stands out as a bargain compared to similar models with comparable mileage.

The vehicle’s appearance in the photo does not match its description of the best condition. The front and rear bumpers, lamps, and wheel arch surrounds are painted with chrome parts, and the center of the bonnet above the grille features a three-pointed star and Bentley’s winged emblem. It also features a bonnet scoop that makes you question whether it functions, four searchlights that will dazzle oncoming drivers, and aftermarket wheels that leave you wondering where they came from.

For the interior, the leather covers on the seat headrests, whose function is unknown, catch the eye, and the hardtop cover, which does not close completely, raises doubts about the product description. Carbon pattern wrapping and white masking tape have been applied to the rear bumper, and some of the white tape has fallen off on the lower right side of the bumper. The large GT wing is believed to cause the hardtop cover failure, and the various letterings that make it difficult to distinguish between genuine and tuned parts also add to the bizarreness.

Meanwhile, the listing is reportedly no longer available on Facebook Marketplace. It is unknown whether the post was deleted due to strong backlash or whether the vehicle was actually sold. If the main parts necessary for driving, such as the powertrain and suspension, are in good condition, it is not impossible to buy them cheaply, restore them to their original condition, and then drive them.
