Dodge muscle car Charger Daytona
makes headlines as an electric vehicle model
What is the leaked price?
EVs are an alternative to internal combustion engines, built on eco-friendliness and high efficiency. With the continuous advancement and development of technology, the production of high-performance EVs is also increasing. In particular, new cars from supercar and sports car manufacturers that have recently been released are almost always equipped with electric motors, and their performance is also improving compared to when they first appeared.
However, as EV technology advances, internal combustion engine positions gradually shrink. In particular, vehicles with large displacement engines, such as muscle cars and supercars, are leaving us or are inevitably being electrified. One of those results is Dodge’s first all-electric muscle car, the Charger Daytona, which is about to enter production, and its price has leaked. Let’s find out more.
It is obviously more expensive than internal combustion engine vehicles
The problem was the price increase
According to various foreign automobile news outlets, the Dodge Charger Daytona EV will be at least $10,000 higher than that of the discontinued Charger equipped with the internal combustion engine. Further, they criticized the price as unbecoming the title of popularizing EVs.
While an official statement has yet to be made, the leaked photos lend credibility to the information. According to the leaked price list, the base model’s price has risen by $19,300, while the higher-end Scat Pack model has seen an increase of $13,070.
Expensive, even considering the performance improvement
Anticipation builds for new internal combustion vehicles
The vehicle’s performance has significantly improved. The previous model featured a 5.7L Hemi engine producing 370 horsepower. In contrast, the new electric model boasts a total output of 495 horsepower, a boost of around 125 horsepower. However, as the brand’s first electric muscle car, it faces the challenge of appealing to a broad audience, and some might find the overall impression lacking.
Fortunately, it appears that Dodge has not entirely abandoned the internal combustion engine. In addition to the internal combustion engine all-wheel drive Six Pack model that will be produced next year, a model equipped with the inline 6-cylinder Hurricane engine based on the internal combustion engine rear-wheel drive will be released along with the top-of-the-line model with the 800V architecture that will be launched in the future.
What are the features of the Charger Daytona EV? Similar performance to the Ioniq 5 N
Another notable feature of the Dodge Charger Daytona is its battery pack, which is supplied by Samsung and enables a range of up to 510 km (317 miles) on a single charge. The two-door electric version is set to start production in the second half of 2024. Meanwhile, the internal combustion engine model, known as the Six Pack, and the four-door electric version are expected to be produced in Canada starting in the first quarter of 2025. Given the Dodge brand’s limited popularity in South Korea, it is unlikely to impact South Korean consumers significantly.
There isn’t a direct comparison for the Dodge Charger Daytona in South Korea, but it stands out when compared to Hyundai’s high-performance electric car, the Ioniq 5N. The Ioniq 5N, built on the 800V E-GMP platform, features an 84 kWh battery, producing around 650 horsepower. In contrast, the high-performance Dodge Charger Daytona model delivers approximately 670 horsepower.
Pricing for the Ioniq 5N starts at $67,495, while the Dodge Charger Daytona base model is about $62,000. The high-performance Scat Pack version of the Charger Daytona exceeds $73,000.
