Porsche Accelerates Development of Electric Cayenne”
What Does the Design Look Like?
Porsche is set to ramp up its full-scale electrification strategy. Earlier, Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board at Porsche AG, stated, “Our goal is for more than 80 percent of new vehicles to be pure electric by 2030.” He also noted that “the newly developed fourth-generation Cayenne will play a significant role in Porsche’s electrification plan.”
In line with this strategy, there is strong speculation that Porsche will kick off its transition to electric vehicles with the Cayenne EV. Recently, a prototype of a new SUV being tested by Porsche has been uncovered, hinting at what might be a key component of their electrification efforts.
The prototype bears a resemblance to the Macan EV, featuring sharper headlights
Initially, there was speculation that the prototype was Porsche’s upcoming 3-row SUV. However, it has since been identified as the Cayenne EV, which has heightened anticipation for its official launch. The prototype, covered in plastic camouflage foam around the wheel arches, made it challenging to discern its actual shape. However, a recent rendering based on this prototype has provided a clearer view of the design.
The rendering suggests that the Macan EV inspires the Cayenne EV’s design. The headlamp box appears more angular and sharp compared to previous models, and the four-point daytime running lights are now positioned horizontally within the headlamp. While the voluminous bonnet shape of the previous Cayenne remains, the parting line runs between the headlamps, maintaining some design continuity with its predecessor.
The split headlight design features a horizontal aerodynamic flap
The Cayenne EV’s design features additional split headlamps positioned at the bottom. The lower headlamp section is trapezoidal, with the LED module at the top. Reflecting the design of the new 911, an adjustable aero flap is placed between the headlamps, enhancing both the vehicle’s visual appeal and aerodynamic performance.
The bumper incorporates a large, hexagonal air intake with sensors and horizontal patterns. While the side profile of the Cayenne EV does not show significant changes from the current Cayenne, the rear quarter glass area has been expanded. This modification alters the previously sharp, triangular line to a more rounded shape, giving the rear a fresh appearance.
The rear design appears sharper and is expected to launch by the end of next year.
For the rear, the same horizontal tail lamps as before are applied. However, the tail lamp ends are transformed more sharply, and they look like they are poking towards the rear quarter panel. A voluminous line is applied to the tailgate, and a more expansive rear glass is placed above it. A horizontal brake light is placed on the top of the rear glass.
For the lower part, black high-gloss is applied to the bottom of the tailgate, and the reflector position is changed to the top to emphasize the aggressive look. For the lower part of the bumper, the chrome garnish protruding toward the rear continues horizontally. According to the industry, Porsche plans to launch the new Cayenne in late 2025 to early 2026.
