Car camping is becoming increasingly common as outdoor and leisure activities gain popularity. While SUVs, known for their versatility and spacious interiors, are frequently used for these adventures, larger camper options are also available, particularly overseas.
In Australia, where expansive roads and stunning natural landscapes abound, companies specialize in converting large trucks into luxurious RVs. Sunliner, a prominent Australian RV manufacturer, offers high-end camper vans with opulent interiors.

One such model is the Monte Carlo, built on the chassis of the Isuzu NQR 87. It features a robust 5.2-liter diesel turbo engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, delivering 188 horsepower and 56 kgf.m of torque. With a body length exceeding 9,000 mm (30 feet), the Monte Carlo presents a commanding presence typical of large trucks.
The RV includes a large tow bar at the front and a removable sliding wall on the side. Tinted glass windows ensure privacy. The Monte Carlo is outfitted with an electric awning, electric step, security screen on the entrance door, door handle lighting, a roof bar, and a 24-inch external monitor.

A 450-liter water tank, complete with a water pump, supports the sink and shower in the bathroom. Two 9-kg gas cylinders manage water temperature. LED strips throughout the interior create a warm ambiance, and the bedroom includes a large queen-size bed.
Expandable space through sliding walls ensures excellent privacy
The safety features include a fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide, gas detector, and fire alarm. The power system has a generator, three solar panels, and a battery to support indoor power needs. Additionally, the RV walls can be adjusted via a sliding mechanism to expand living and kitchen areas with the push of a button.
Sunliner describes the Monte Carlo as a “spacious apartment on wheels,” providing the same functionality and privacy as a home. Priced at approximately 450,000 AUD (about US$300,000), the Monte Carlo is a significant investment. However, it has a dedicated following in Australia, where some individuals live in camper vans full-time instead of traditional homes.
