Will BMW Launch a Pickup Truck?
The pickup truck market is experiencing notable growth, particularly in the U.S. Despite this trend, BMW has yet to enter the segment. Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group Design Chief, has dismissed the idea of a BMW pickup truck, stating, “It’s not an obvious fit for the BMW brand. We don’t have to go after every trend that is happening.”
BMW pickup truck rendering emerge

Nevertheless, the concept of a BMW pickup truck has captured the imagination of enthusiasts. A recent rendering of a pickup truck based on the new M5 has generated considerable interest. The front design closely mirrors the new M5, featuring the large kidney grille that is a hallmark of BMW’s identity and the iconic glow around the grille.
The rendering reflects the M5’s high-performance roots with a sportier bumper design. The side profile presents a distinctive look: the rear glass is notably short behind the B-pillar, which itself is nearly vertical, creating a wall-like appearance at the back. This design necessitates a shift from the traditional 5-seater configuration to a 2-seater layout.

Will the PHEV powertrain remain unchanged?
Digitally altered to remove the roof behind the B-pillar, the rendering reveals an open cargo area at the rear. The sharp front and angular cargo area create a striking contrast. The M5’s potent high-performance engine is expected to deliver impressive performance. The M5 features a plug-in hybrid system (PHEV) combining a 4.4L V8 turbo engine, which alone generates 585 horsepower, with an electric motor for a total output of 727 horsepower and 102 kgf.m of torque. It’s paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and operates as a four-wheel drive, offering robust off-road capabilities. The charging port on the left front fender suggests that the powertrain remains largely unchanged.
The new M5 weighs 2,445 kg (5,390 pounds), up 24% from the previous model. If you add the weight of cargo and luggage, the weight is expected to exceed 3 tons (6,614 pounds). Sporty driving may be difficult, but stable driving is expected thanks to the active M differential, which distributes the driving force to the left and right, and the driving force distribution system, which controls the body balance.
