Nissan’s full-size SUV Armada

with a powerful off-road version revealed

Nissan introduced its redesigned Armada SUV on September 3, marking a significant update for the full-size vehicle that has been a fixture in the U.S. market since its debut in 2003. Initially built on the framework of Nissan’s Titan pickup, the first-generation Armada has seen its fair share of competition in the American SUV segment.

The all-new, third-generation Armada is slated for release in late 2024 as a 2025 model. Despite its long presence, the Armada has struggled to make a mark against competitors, such as the Chevrolet Tahoe, which has outsold it by a ratio of more than five to one in the U.S. market.

The new model features a V6 twin-turbocharged engine
that delivers a powerful output of 425 horsepower

However, Nissan did not give up on the Armada in the U.S. market. One of the most notable changes is replacing the long-standing 5.6-liter V8 engine with a new V6 twin-turbocharged powertrain. This updated engine delivers 425 horsepower and 71.3 kgf.m of torque, an increase of 25 horsepower over the previous model.

The new Armada also boasts a 9-speed automatic transmission, replacing the former 7-speed system. This upgrade promises enhanced acceleration, quicker gear shifts, and greater overall efficiency. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options. The new model’s towing capability is robust, reaching up to 8,501 pounds, and it offers additional features like integrated trailer brakes and an advanced trailer blind spot monitoring system for improved stability.

A more boxy design change
There’s also the Pro-4X for off-road

Design-wise, the Armada has undergone significant changes. The headlamps have been placed vertically, and the unique angular daytime running lights are placed separately at the top and bottom. The grille has been expanded to the side more than before, and a chrome garnish is placed above the grille, giving it a luxurious feel. The grille pattern has also been changed to feel considerably more solid.

For the rear, the tail lamp arrangement has been changed to vertical, the chrome garnish that used to be attached to the previous tailgate has disappeared, and a horizontal lamp has been added in its place. The area of the rear diffuser has also been expanded and integrated with a more extended reflector. The Pro-4X model for off-road driving has also been revealed. It features a more robust bumper, skid plate, electronically controlled rear differential, and 20-inch wheels with off-road tires.

The ground clearance can be adjusted, and the interior is equipped with the latest infotainment system

The Pro-4X also comes equipped with air suspension that allows for adjustable ground clearance—lowering by 2.0 inches or raising by 2.1 inches, depending on the driving conditions. The redesigned frame enhances safety with increased torsional and lateral rigidity.

Inside, the Armada offers a modern cockpit with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. The first row includes an 8-way power leather seat and a 6-speaker audio system. The third row provides 5.7 inches of legroom and offers 578 liters of cargo space behind it. When the second and third rows are folded down, the maximum cargo capacity expands to 2,750 liters. The Armada includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and rear cross-traffic collision warning and assistance for safety and convenience.
