Nissan has set a new Guinness World Record with its Qashqai e-Power compact SUV, achieving the highest drop between high-rise buildings in Puteaux, France. The SUV was dropped from an altitude of approximately 65 meters (213 feet).

Professional racer and stuntman Laurent Lasko performed the daring feat, donning protective gear, including a helmet. A crane lifted The vehicle into the air and secured it in a specially designed cage before the record-setting drop.

Nissan recorded the entire bungee jump process, capturing the vehicle safely landing while suspended by ropes

Under the watchful eyes of a Guinness World Records inspector and other officials, a crane lifted the Nissan Qashqai e-Power to 65 meters (213 feet) from the ground. The SUV appeared minuscule. A radio signal was sent to release the securing device, and the vehicle began its descent.

The vehicle’s interior was also captured during the bungee jump, showcasing the stuntman’s reactions. Despite his extensive experience, the stuntman appeared startled, as if unaccustomed to bungee jumping from inside a vehicle. His grip on the handlebars was visibly tense. As the SUV plummeted, it nearly tipped over, but the bungee cord held firm, allowing the stuntman to complete the jump successfully.

The record only counts if the vehicle sustains no damage
Similar attempts have occurred in the past

The Nissan Qashqai e-Power, having safely landed among the crowd, successfully completed its record-setting bungee jump. Both the vehicle and its occupant were unharmed, meeting the Guinness World Records’ requirement for the bungee rope and the vehicle to remain undamaged. With this achievement, Nissan now holds the record for the highest bungee jump involving a vehicle.

This remarkable feat will be featured live in an upcoming Nissan TV commercial. While Nissan’s bungee jump stunt is undoubtedly innovative, it follows a history of similar attempts. Notably, in 1992, GMC executed a bungee jump from a height of 263.7 meters (865.2 feet) with a Jimmy, surpassing this new record.

Companies attempt car bungee jumps as a marketing tool

Despite GMC’s 1992 attempt, which saw a bungee jump from 263.7 meters (865.2 feet) with a Jimmy, Guinness never officially recorded it due to a lack of certification. Similarly, in the Rover 114 Cabriolet Bungee Jump Challenge hosted by Top Gear in the UK, former international cricketer Andrew Flintoff performed a bungee jump from 165 meters (541.3 feet) with no one onboard.

Nissan’s altitude vehicle bungee jump is a strategic marketing move to capture consumer attention. However, given the extensive equipment and manpower required, it has faced criticism for its cost-efficiency. The true impact of Nissan’s ddariNissanon consumer perception remains to be seen.
