Ford Expands Hybrid Lineup
Plans New Vehicle Launches by 2027
Including Super Duty Pickup Trucks
Ford is poised to strengthen its market presence by expanding its vehicle lineup. In response to a recent slump in the electric vehicle market, the automaker is adopting a strategy that includes both electric and hybrid models. Ford plans to introduce an electric minivan by 2026, a hybrid version of a three-row SUV by 2027, and the F-Series Super Duty pickup truck by 2027.
The F-Series Super Duty, known as a heavy-duty pickup truck by American standards, falls within the upper segment of full-size pickups and is notable for its substantial size. Given its large dimensions, fuel efficiency tends to be lower. According to the EPA, the F-250 Super Duty achieves a fuel efficiency of 8.5 km per liter (19.9 mpg).

Design Changes Focusing on the Front
The upcoming hybrid system for the F-Series Super Duty is expected to address the lower fuel efficiency often associated with large pickup trucks, which has been a notable disadvantage. As for the design, there is still ample time before the vehicle’s release, so specific details remain unclear. Since the fifth-generation Super Duty debuted in 2023, developing a prototype that can inform the design process may take some time.
In the meantime, an overseas virtual rendering designer has gained attention by releasing a speculative design for the new Super Duty featuring a hybrid powertrain. Anticipated changes for this pickup are likely to focus on the front end. Notably, the thick garnish that previously spanned the front grille and headlights has been eliminated, suggesting a sleeker appearance for the hybrid model.

The large radiator grille retains its width, emphasizing the solid image typical of pickup trucks. An underbar is installed at the bottom of the grille, extending to the sides and connecting to the headlights. The distinctive ㄷ-shaped daytime running lights found in the F-Series have been shortened and positioned vertically along the sides.
The guard mounted on the lower bumper protrudes forward, enhancing the vehicle’s rugged appearance. The front lip attached to the lower bumper extends horizontally and features a sharp design. Beyond these updates, there appear to be no significant changes to the side or rear of the vehicle. The partially visible rear section suggests continuity with the current model, as it retains the box-shaped tail lights.
Downsizing Possibilities Arise
Electric Motor to Supplement Output
Examining the rear of the current Super Duty pickup truck, you’ll find robust headlights positioned on the sides, a square-shaped tailgate, and a sturdy rear step. The upcoming model’s powertrain may be inspired by the Ford F-150 PowerBoost.
The existing Super Duty lineup features a 6.8L V8 gasoline engine, a 7.3L V8 gasoline engine, and a 6.7L V8 diesel engine. However, a downsized 3.5L V6 gasoline engine is expected to be paired with a hybrid system, significantly enhancing fuel efficiency. Incorporating an electric motor is projected to yield powerful performance, exceeding 430 horsepower.
