BMW M9, Rendering Appears
Design Reflecting Powerful Performance
Aggressive Body Proportions and Volume
Consumers are arguing over BMW’s high-performance M series and the Neue Klasse, which is considered the next-generation EV design. Amid mixed reactions to the kidney grille’s changing shape, BMW recently announced changes by reorganizing its design team.
Former Polestar design boss Maximilian Missoni will oversee large vehicles, luxury-class models, and high-performance Alpina. This is expected to impact future vehicle designs, and an overseas virtual artist has presented BMW’s design vision.
Differentiating from Neue Klasse
Traditional design was reinterpreted
Missoni created the rendering to suggest a new direction different from BMW’s current design. He presented the M9 asBMW’ss latest flagship model and adopted a design with a somewhat flat feel. BMW and the electrification transition presented the Vision Neue Klasse concept as the next-generation EV design language.
It has presented a futuristic design suitable for EVs, such as a panel grille that extends in the shape of wings and headlights integrated into the grille. However, the rendering of the M9 this time seems to have applied a new interpretation of a somewhat traditional design. Looking at the details, the front is equipped with an iconic glow grille.
The large grille extends horizontally
With sharply defined headlights
The grille layout is different from the existing one. Although a large vertical grille is applied, it has a unique proportion that seems extended horizontally. Chrome garnish is used around the grille to enhance the sense of luxury. In the area between the grille, headlamps, and bumper, black high-gloss is applied to create a look that seems to be connected in a unified manner.
For the headlamps, the ends have been sharpened, and the size has been expanded. For the sides, vertical air intakes and a front lip that protrudes forward are placed at the bottom of the bumper to emphasize the sporty look. For the side, the volume has been used to create a three-dimensional effect, and the low-hanging roof line reveals the proportions of a sports car. An air intake is placed below the C pillar to improve cooling efficiency.

Demand for High-Performance Model Rises
Meanwhile, conceptual rendering of the M9 has appeared before. The rendering garnered attention as consumers demanded that BMW release a more powerful, high-performance model. The aggressive appearance, including the overall angular lines and voluminous body shape, is the same as the latest rendering.
However, there are differences in the design, such as the side character line that flows in a curved shape and continues to the rear spoiler. In the rear, a panoramic sunroof that extends to the trunk lid and a tail lamp with a sharp end below it are applied. It consists of a voluminous bumper and a horizontal tail lamp.
