Off-Road Sports Car Craze
Nissan’s Unique Developments Detected
The Star of the Show is the Fairlady Z
The Nissan Fairlady Z has been a staple in the sports car segment for seven generations, dating back to 1969. As the automotive market shifts towards SUV-based crossovers, the Fairlady Z is making headlines for its unexpected evolution. Recently, models like the Lamborghini Huracan Sterato and Porsche 911 Dakar have sparked conversations with their innovative blend of off-road capabilities and sports car aesthetics.
Now, Nissan seems poised to follow suit. Reports indicate that preparations are underway for a Fairlady Z derivative explicitly designed for off-road driving. This new model is expected to enter mass production and will likely resemble the previously unveiled concept car. As anticipation builds, questions arise about its potential release markets and pricing.
Trademark Registered in Australia
Likely Collaborating with Local Firms
On September 13, international outlets like Carscoops and Motor1 reported that Nissan had registered a trademark for a new model name in Australia: the Z Warrior. This name is expected to designate the off-road version of the Fairlady Z. Currently, Nissan offers a special edition developed in partnership with Australian off-road tuning expert Premcar, available exclusively in Australia.
The off-road Warrior variant currently includes two models: the Navara pickup truck and the Patrol SUV. In June, Nissan Oceania’s managing director, Andrew Humberstone, had previously suggested that the Warrior program, in collaboration with Premcar, would see further expansion.
The Concept Car Offers Hints
Will It Look Similar?
Should the Fairlady Z Warrior make its debut, it will feature a range of enhancements tailored for off-road performance. Anticipated upgrades include specialized exterior components, underbody protection, a suspension system with increased ground clearance, and unique wheels fitted with all-terrain tires. Additional distinguishing features may encompass auxiliary lighting and exclusive interior color schemes.
The Nissan Safari Rally Z Tribute concept car, showcased at the 2023 SEMA Show, offers a preview of the potential production model. This concept incorporates all the off-road modifications mentioned earlier and a fine-tuned powertrain to deliver over 400 horsepower.
Global Sales Potential Looks Promising
What’s the Expected Price Range?
The Navara and Patrol Warrior, both tuned by Premcar, are priced at approximately AUD 8,000 and AUD 17,000 (around USD 5,000 to USD 11,000) more than their standard versions. The Fairlady Z Warrior is anticipated to come with a similar price increase, though it is expected to be more competitively priced than the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato.
Currently, the only confirmation regarding the Z Warrior’s potential launch comes from its trademark registration, making it difficult to predict if it will be produced. If introduced, it may initially be restricted to the Australian market, much like the Navara and Patrol. However, given the positive reception of off-road sports cars in key international markets such as Europe and the U.S., there is optimism that the Z Warrior could see a broader global release.
