Nissan Versa: Subcompact Sedan That Keeps Winning Hearts in North America

Nissan’s subcompact sedan Versa
gains particular popularity in the North American market
with the launch of the 2025 model

In the U.S., compact sedans are often utilized alongside SUVs, with Japanese manufacturers dominating the North American market for years. The enduring popularity of these vehicles can be attributed to their durability, ease of repair, and high reliability. Many consumers also appreciate the availability of affordable models, making them ideal as second cars.

One standout in this category is Nissan’s subcompact sedan, the Versa, which has consistently ranked as the top subcompact car in North America. Recently, Nissan introduced the 2025 model of the Versa, which, unfortunately, comes with a slight price increase. Despite this adjustment, the Versa attracts attention for its budget-friendly vehicle appeal. What features contribute to its enduring popularity in a competitive market?

Price increase unavoidable
Due to standard features and improved value

First, let’s look at the price. The base model of the 2025 Nissan Versa costs $17,190, which is about $1,060 more than the 2024 model. The Versa has been popular as the cheapest subcompact vehicle, so the price increase news is even more disappointing. This leaves the Mitsubishi Mirage as the most affordable vehicle in the North American market.

However, it is still competitive as a subcompact sedan. With the launch of this model year change, the Nissan Versa has strengthened its product competitiveness, and LED headlights have been applied as standard to the entry-grade S and mid-grade SV.

Rich options in the top trim as the 2025 model may face discontinuation

Various specifications, such as a dark chrome grille, 17-inch wheels, black side mirrors, and a rear spoiler, have added detail and luxury to the top-of-the-line Versa SR. For the interior, an 8-inch infotainment screen, larger than the existing 7-inch screen, is installed, and it is equipped with 4 USB ports, wireless charging, heated seats, and various ADAS technologies.

For the powertrain, the 1.6L 4-cylinder gasoline engine is mated to a CVT or 5-speed manual transmission, generating a maximum of 124 horsepower. For the drive system, all specifications are front-wheel drive. The reason why the 2025 Versa is attracting more attention is because it is highly likely that it will be discontinued after this model.

Despite the price increase, it remains competitive with Nissan’s value-focused lineup

This phenomenon occurs because the demand for subcompact vehicles is falling overall, and there are also predictions that the future of Japanese compact cars in the North American market will not be entirely positive. Nevertheless, the 2025 Versa still boasts strong price competitiveness, with the cheapest starting at $17,190 and the most expensive starting at $21,190.

Meanwhile, Nissan emphasized the diversity of its cost-effective vehicle lineup, saying it offers the Versa, Sentra, and Kicks for under $22,000 in the North American market and the Altima, Leaf, and Rogue for under $30,000.
