The imagined 2026 model incorporates the face of the Equinox EV

On September 18, Digimids DESIGN, known for its impressive automotive CGI renderings, debuted a striking new rendering of the Chevrolet Uplander on YouTube. Initially produced briefly, this minivan is reimagined here as a refreshed 2026 model. The design takes cues from the Kia Carnival while integrating Chevrolet’s signature styling elements at both the front and rear.

The front end of the rendering is heavily inspired by Chevrolet’s entry-level electric SUV, the Equinox EV. It features thicker horizontal daytime running lights tailored to the minivan’s proportions, complemented by a broadened bumper both above and below. A complex character line graces the hood, lending a sense of depth and strength to the overall aesthetic. This rendering showcases the RS trim, with black finishes on the front fascia, wheel arches, side mirrors, and emblems, amplifying the vehicle’s sporty character.

The rear blends in without any major discrepancies
Resembling an SUV at first glance

The rendering’s rear design blends seamlessly with the overall aesthetic, avoiding any awkwardness. A dotted light bar, narrowing toward the center, complements the dual-line tail lamps on either side, enhancing visual interest and breaking up potential monotony. Above the lights, a black high-gloss panel is strategically placed to balance the proportions between the upper and lower sections of the rear.

A hexagonal black panel featuring a diamond pattern in the license plate area introduces a geometric flair. The sides of the rear bumper are accented with sharp, vent-shaped details that provide visual stability and give the body a wider stance. Additionally, a diffuser-style skid plate at the bottom contributes to the design, offering an SUV-like aesthetic to the rear profile.

The Unfortunate Story of the Uplander
Why it became a black mark for Chevrolet

Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Uplander is an ill-fated model that was only sold for about four years, from 2005 to 2008. It was planned as a successor to the Chevrolet Venture. It was also sold as a badge-engineered model for several brands under GM, such as the Pontiac Montana, Saturn Relay, and Buick Terraza. The powertrain was paired with a V6 engine with a displacement of 3.5L to 3.9L and a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Attempting to carve out a niche as a “crossover sports van,” the Uplander sought to differentiate itself from competitors. However, it failed to resonate with consumers, primarily due to the lack of essential minivan features, such as a full-flat or detachable second-row seat, which are critical for maximizing interior space. Ultimately, it struggled against strong rivals like the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna, leading to its discontinuation without a direct successor. Since then, GM has stepped away from the minivan segment in the North American market.
