A limited edition Lamborghini Reventon
Replica appears in the used vehicle market
Perplexing visuals draw attention
Supercars like Lamborghini and Ferrari are often called “dream cars” because they represent the ultimate automotive aspiration for many enthusiasts. However, due to their exclusivity and high price tags, only a select few can turn that dream into reality. For those who still long for the supercar experience but can’t afford the real deal, some turn to creating replica vehicles—cars designed to resemble the originals, even though they don’t possess the same performance or pedigree.
There are two primary methods of building a replica. The first involves constructing the vehicle’s frame from scratch to mimic the supercar’s design. The second and more common approach is using a cheaper vehicle with a similar structure and heavily modifying it to replicate the desired model. While this method is less complex, it often sacrifices quality in the final result. Recently, a replica of the rare Lamborghini Reventon, built using the latter method, surfaced and quickly drew attention for its striking attempt to emulate the iconic supercar.
The base vehicle is a Toyota Supra which underwent extensive modifications
On September 22, an eye-catching vehicle was listed for sale on the Dutch second-hand platform Marktplaats. This unique vehicle, based on a third-generation Toyota Supra, showed clear signs of being modified to resemble the iconic Lamborghini Reventon. The body was painted matte gray, and the front bumper was equipped with a large air intake and sharp, angular headlights reminiscent of the Reventon’s signature design.
A large skirt was installed on the side, nearly touching the ground. However, the replica reveals the limitations of mimicking the original’s proportions because the Toyota Supra features a front-engine layout—unlike the Reventon’s rear mid-engine configuration. The rear quarter glass was darkly tinted to resemble an engine intake, enhancing the supercar look. At the rear, the car mimicked the Reventon’s distinct design elements, including a hexagonal center muffler tip and a sharply pointed rear end, creating a convincing, albeit imperfect, imitation of Lamborghini’s exclusive supercar.
The interior and powertrain remain unchanged with a selling price of under $15,000
Surprisingly, the interior has not undergone any changes to make it look like a Reventon. The steering wheel and dashboard of the existing Supra remain, and some interior materials, such as the door trim and center console, have been removed. It seems that the seats and shift lever were applied as aftermarket parts. According to the description, the powertrain is equipped with the existing 3.0L 6-cylinder engine, generating a maximum output of 238 horsepower. Since it is combined with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, the driving fun will not be lacking.
According to Carscoops, the replica vehicle was also listed as a used car in May 2022. The price in 2022 was about 19,950 euros (US$21,000), but it has dropped to about 13,250 (US$14,620) this time. It is definitely cheaper than before, but it is still more expensive than the price of the same 1990 Supra.
Only 21 original models exist
The Lamborghini Reventon, which debuted in 2008, was Lamborghini’s first limited edition model and is based on the Murcielago, the flagship model of the time. The Reventon was renowned for its sharp, fighter-jet-inspired design and its exclusive production run. Only 21 units were ever made, including one exhibition model. At its launch, the Reventon had a price tag of around $1.5 million, making it a highly sought-after collector’s item.
