Pontiac G8, discontinued in 2009
Reveals rendering of its successor model
Showcasing a modernized design
Pontiac was a brand under General Motors from 1926 to 2010. Although the brand was discontinued in 2010, it is still remembered in the US as a core brand representing General Motors’ sports orientation.
In a nod to that enduring popularity, General Motors has recently garnered attention by unveiling renderings of the Pontiac G8 concept car, designed before the brand’s closure. Initially produced in 2008, the concept car was intended as a large sedan and is believed to have been the potential successor to the G8 model sold in 2009.
The 2008 G8 concept made as the basis for this rendering
The concept car is a model that shows what kind of cars Pontiac might have produced had it not disappeared. It has a sporty appearance with an aggressive profile and voluminous wheel arches. It also features a more exaggerated interpretation of the angular twin grille design seen on Pontiacs in the 2000s.
Recently, Carscoops has been gaining attention by presenting a rendering of a production model that reinterprets the design of the Pontiac G8 concept in a modern way. This rendering reflects the imagined situation in which Pontiac and the G8 did not disappear but continued to exist as muscle cars.
The sleek twin grille design emphasizes a sporty aesthetic
The revealed appearance has undergone a sportier change while maintaining the twin grille revealed in the G8 concept. The layout of the grille has changed to extend more sharply toward the side. The upper part of the grille has been configured to intersect with the daytime running lights. As for the headlamps, the size has been reduced from the existing vertical type, and the ㄱ shaped daytime running lights have been placed.
The bumper is structured with a three-part air intake and an angled body panel surrounding it. A common honeycomb-type pattern enhances the design unity of the air intake and radiator grill. In the lower part of the bumper, the front lip that smoothly protrudes toward the front and the vertical body panel are connected, reinforcing the sporty image.
Auto flush door handles enhance luxury with chrome accents
Here, the voluminous bonnet line extends from the sides and center, revealing an aggressive appearance. When viewed from the side, it consists of frameless windows, auto-flush door handles, and angular, voluminous side skirts. The chrome line along the window line also emphasizes a luxurious feel.
Its roofline drops sharply from the sharply rising A-pillar to the trunk lid. The rear has not been revealed, but the manufacturer said it has a performance-oriented design with an integrated spoiler, a large diffuser, and quad muffler tips. Under the hood, it is set to have a 6.2L V8 supercharged engine that has been slightly detuned from the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, producing 668 horsepower. This is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission. If it is actually launched as set, the price is expected to be around $45,000 to $60,000.
