Renault has long been known for producing compact cars that deliver excellent performance, but in recent years, the brand’s offerings have struggled to stand out. That may be about to change as Renault looks to make a strong comeback at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, kicking off this Monday. Their highly anticipated compact electric SUV, the Renault 4, is leading the charge, which has been turning heads since its concept version was revealed. With the release of teaser images ahead of its global debut, anticipation is building.

While spy shots of the prototype have surfaced before, Renault’s latest teaser offers a clearer look at the SUV’s design. From what we can see, the overall shape hasn’t strayed far from the concept, but the teaser image allows for a closer look at the details hidden under the camouflage. Up front, the rectangular grille and illuminated Renault logo immediately catch the eye. This light-up badge is a new feature set to roll out across the brand’s lineup, adding a touch of sophistication.

At the rear, the three-piece taillights and trapezoidal rear quarter windows pay homage to the original Renault 4 that captured European hearts in the 1960s. The bumper extension retains the same shape as the concept, but the production model uses lightweight plastic instead of chrome for added efficiency.

The Renault 4 features plenty of retro-inspired design cues, from diagonal trim strips to horizontal ribs along the doors. To keep things fresh, the teaser hints at a folding roof and roof spoiler, lending the compact SUV a more polished and sporty look.

Despite its sleek and dynamic exterior, the Renault 4 seems designed for city driving. Under the hood, it will come standard with a single electric motor powering the front wheels. Buyers can expect different output levels, with versions offering 95 horsepower, 123 horsepower, and 140 horsepower. Battery options are likely to include 40kWh and 52kWh capacities, giving drivers some flexibility in range.

While full specs haven’t been disclosed, Renault is positioning the 4 as a roomier alternative within the compact SUV segment. With a total length of 4,140 mm (163 inches), it promises a comfortable interior compared to its rivals.

As we look forward to its unveiling at the Paris Motor Show, the Renault 4 is already shaping to stand out. With its blend of nostalgic design and city-friendly electric powertrain, this new SUV could be the shake-up Renault needs.
