Unveils and Launch Facelifted Model
Sports Model GTS Also Revealed
Volkswagen has unveiled the facelifted version of its compact coupe SUV, the Nivus, in Brazil. The Nivus, which has been in production since 2020, is based on Volkswagen’s MQB A0 platform, shared with the 6th-generation Polo. In addition to the updated base model, Volkswagen also revealed the sporty Nivus GTS for the first time. A version of the Nivus is also sold in Europe under the name Taigo.
The Nivus is based on the MQB A0 platform of the 6th generation Volkswagen Polo and has dimensions of 4,266 mm(168.0 inches) in length, 1,750 mm(69.0 inches) in width, 1,493 mm(58.8 inches) in height, and a wheelbase of 2,566 mm(101.0 inches). Starting with Brazil in 2020, it received a facelift as a popular model in Latin America, including Mexico, and a sports version, the GTS model, was also unveiled.
Subtle Design Enhancements: GTS Model Stands Out
The new Nivus’s overall appearance remains unchanged as it uses the same MQB A0 platform, but the design of some elements has changed. Looking at the front, the first thing that catches the eye is the thinner grille, and the curved headlights are connected to the light bar that runs across the grille. The fog lights that used to be next to the grille have been replaced with air intakes, and the lower grille has become larger.
The rear appearance has also been changed. The taillights are designed to be connected to the front headlights, and the reflectors are vertical. The wheels have been changed to new 17-inch wheels. The newly launched GTS model is almost the same as the base model, but the front grille is not designed horizontally; it has adopted a honeycomb grille. Also, the chrome details on the side have been changed to the word GTS.
Performance Suited for Road Driving
Cabin Equipped with Convenient Features
The standard Nivus is powered by a 1.0L 3-cylinder TSI engine, delivering a maximum output of 128 horsepower and 20.39 kg.m of torque. The performance-oriented Nivus GTS is expected to feature a 1.4L 4-cylinder TSI engine, similar to the Polo GTS, generating 148 horsepower and 25.5 kg.m of torque. While the GTS model was revealed alongside the standard Nivus, detailed specifications are expected closer to its 2025 release date.
The facelifted Nivus features a tech-forward interior, with a 10.1-inch display as standard. Drivers can choose between an 8-inch or 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, depending on the trim. The base model has adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, wireless charging, and automatic climate control. The optional ADAS package introduces new safety and driving functions, enhancing the overall driving experience.
Connected Car Capabilities and Pricing
The Nivus is said to offer connected car functions, as it has a Volkswagen Play Connect Center with 4G Internet. Starting with this model, you can use the app installed in the center without having to route data from your smartphone, and you can start or stop the vehicle remotely. It is not known whether these changes will be reflected in the Tiago for the European market.
The basic Nivus model orders are already being accepted in Brazil, and the starting price is $24,480. The Nivus GTS sports model is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2025, and the price has not been announced yet. Volkswagen will launch three more compact SUVs in South America in the future, and a smaller, more affordable model than the Nivus will also be added in 2025.
