LFR Prototype Spotted During Test Drive
Design Insights Through Renderings
Lexus is preparing to re-enter the supercar arena with the highly anticipated LFR, an advanced successor to the iconic LFA, produced in limited numbers (500 units) between 2010 and 2012. The LFA, known for its groundbreaking use of carbon fiber and handcrafted details, cost around 40 million yen ($261,104) but ultimately led to a financial loss of approximately $50 million.
Contrast between the long front bonnet and the short rear overhang
On October 14, a prototype of the LFR, the successor model to the LFA, was captured near the Nürburgring circuit in Germany. The body was covered with camouflage at the time, but the sporty proportions, aggressive front bumper, and air intake shape could not be hidden. Based on the prototype captured at the time, the Russian automotive media Kolesa revealed a rendering of the LFR, which is becoming a hot topic.
The LFR is set to be the production evolution of the GR GT3 Coupe Concept introduced by Toyota in 2022, suggesting that the new model will likely retain many of that concept’s design elements. Notably, the LFR’s styling centers on contrasting a pronounced, elongated bonnet and a shorter rear overhang, delivering a balanced yet bold look characteristic of high-end performance cars.
Narrow and sharp headlamps
Thin grille shape with a center connection
For the front, the elongated headlamps seen in the prototype are reflected in the rendering. The headlamps have a narrow line shape that sharply pokes toward the front fender. A thin horizontal grille is placed between the headlamps, giving a sense of visual integration. A large trapezoidal air intake is placed in the center of the bumper.
Each split air intake was additionally placed for the sides, and the ends were sharpened like the headlamps to emphasize the sporty image. Air intakes were also added to the bonnet and the front and rear fenders to maximize cooling efficiency. In addition, the character line extending from the front fender passes diagonally over the door handle and protrudes sharply.
Large rear wing placement
Expected to be unveiled in 2026
A large rear wing and strip-shaped tail lamps are placed for the rear. A streamlined tail lamp with a futuristic look is placed at the bottom of the trunk lid. Below that, Lexus lettering and a large air intake are placed. A mesh pattern is applied to the inside of the air intake. A quad muffler tip is installed below the bumper.
Details of the powertrain are unknown, but it is expected to be equipped with a V8 engine that produces more powerful performance than the LFA. In line with the current market trend, a hybrid system may also be installed. The production model of the LFR is expected to be unveiled as early as 2026.
