UK automaker Morgan makes headlines with the Plus 6 discontinuation announcement
Wraps up with a limited edition new model is launched
British automaker Morgan, known for its classic designs and rich heritage, has discontinued its limited edition Plus 6 roadster. For those unfamiliar with Morgan, it’s a quintessentially British brand crafting hand-built vehicles since 1910. Morgan remains one of the few wholly British-owned automakers, holding its independence even as industry giants like Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and McLaren came under foreign ownership.
Initially famed for its three-wheeled models in the early 20th century, Morgan earned a reputation for delivering accessible, practical vehicles. Over time, the brand began producing four-wheeled classics, including iconic models like the 4/4 series and the Plus 8. Morgan’s approach has stayed true to its roots, blending traditional design elements with modern engineering to create some of the most distinctive vehicles on the road today.
A rare sight in automotive design
Only 30 units are available for limited sale
One of Morgan’s standout models is the two-seater Plus 6, a successor to the beloved Plus 8, produced from 1968 until 2004. Officially introduced as a special edition at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Plus 8, the Plus 6 captures the essence of classic British motoring. With a length of 3,910 mm (153.9 inches), a width of 1,745 mm (68.7 inches), and a height of 1,280 mm (50.4 inches), the car’s proportions exude a vintage charm, featuring a long hood and sleek, low-slung body.
Morgan recently confirmed it will end the high-performance Plus 6 production and cap the line with a final limited edition called the Pinnacle. Inspired by feedback from Plus 6 enthusiasts over the past six years, this special model will be limited to just 30 units, marking the close of an era for this iconic design.
It’s still a sports car
Almost endless options are available
The Pinnacle, crafted on a bonded aluminum platform, retains the low-slung design that defines the Plus 6. Under the hood, it pairs a turbocharged 3.0L inline six-cylinder engine from BMW with an 8-speed automatic transmission, delivering 335 horsepower. This setup propels the Pinnacle from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds, staying true to its sports car credentials despite its vintage appearance.
In keeping with its retro styling, the Pinnacle forgoes the large screens typical of modern vehicles. The instrument panel remains analog, and the mirrors harken back to early 20th-century designs. The interior offers elegant choices, including brown and blue leather, natural sheepskin carpets, and intricate seat stitching. Drawing on customer feedback, Morgan has created nearly limitless customization options, ensuring each unit reflects the unique tastes of its owner.
Skyrocketing production costs lead to eye-watering price
Successor model to feature a new look
The Pinnacle will be an exclusive run, limited to just 30 units. Its price reflects both rarity and extensive customization options—totaling £96,995 (around $125,681). This distinctive design is rare even by Morgan’s standards and offers enthusiasts a unique opportunity, especially given the absence of similar models in Morgan’s current lineup, like the Plus 4.
For collectors, this final Plus 6 holds added appeal. Morgan has confirmed this will be the last model to feature its signature winged silhouette, as the next flagship will introduce an entirely new design direction. While details on the forthcoming model remain sparse, it’s expected to retain the BMW-sourced powertrain, ensuring continuity in performance as the brand embraces a fresh aesthetic.
