Fiat’s ‘Ugliest Car’ Makes a Comeback with Hyundai’s Pixel Design Twist

Fiat’s MPV, Multipla
Once Known as the Ugliest Vehicle
Resurfaces with Hyundai’s Pixel Design

A vehicle with a design reminiscent of Hyundai’s iconic pixel elements has surfaced, sparking considerable attention. Fiat’s Multipla, once infamous for being labeled one of the ugliest cars in history, has resurfaced in the automotive spotlight. Known for its unconventional design, the Multipla was initially launched in Europe in the late 1990s, and despite its short-lived production, it left a lasting impression. Alongside the Pontiac Aztek and SsangYong Rodius, it earned its place among the most controversial vehicle designs, even gaining recognition from car enthusiasts in South Korea.

Recently, a next-generation rendering of the Multipla has emerged, causing quite a stir due to its apparent design influence from Hyundai’s pixel-themed aesthetic.

Thicker Wheel Arches and Tires
Heavily Incorporating Pixel Design

Recently, the rendering of the next-generation model of this multiple has emerged and become a hot topic. The most striking part of the rendering is the lamps at the front and rear of the vehicle. They actively reflect Hyundai’s flagship design, the pixel design.

The larger wheels and lower, wider stance than the previous model create the vehicle a stable appearance. It also features a new look with muscular wheel arches and new wheels wrapped in thick tires. The tires themselves integrate the pixel pattern, harmonizing with the vehicle’s lighting elements to give it a cohesive, futuristic look.

Adding Practicality with
Roof Box and Ladder

The vehicle’s exterior has been changed to a box-shaped, angular exterior. The MLTPLA logo engraved on the side of the vehicle stands out, and a roof box has been added to the top of the vehicle. In addition, all of the vehicle’s pillars have been removed, creating a futuristic feel from the windshield to the rear window.

A detachable ladder mounted at the rear adds further versatility, showcasing how this concept car balances quirky aesthetics with practical elements. Though some may find the bold design excessive, it is arguably a vast improvement from the original Multipla, which was often criticized for its awkward proportions.

Will It Reach Production?
The Possible Revival of Multipla

The chances of the Fiat Multipla being revived and put into mass production for consumers are very slim. Italian Fiat seems to have little interest in reviving the Multipla due to its low popularity among passengers and other reasons. Nevertheless, many people are interested in the new Multipla, which is revealed through rendering.

The Re. Multipla project, revealed in February, was an attempt to modernize the controversial design with an electric powertrain. Though it may not lead to mass production, the project showed Fiat’s willingness to play with the past, potentially breathing new life into iconic designs for the electric vehicle era.
