Land Rover Prepares for 2025 Electric Debut: What We Know So Far

newautopost Views

Land Rover Shifts to Electric
New Prototype Spotted

MotorAuthority

Land Rover, the UK premium SUV brand, is making significant strides in its shift to electric vehicles. The company has set an ambitious target to launch four all-electric models by 2026. Recently, a prototype of the Range Rover Electric was spotted, and more recently, a Range Rover Sport Electric prototype was captured in testing without camouflage, further fueling consumer anticipation.

Land Rover is not stopping there. Plans are in place to expand its EV lineup beyond the Range Rover models, with an electric version of an SUV similar in size to the Velar set to join the family.

Subtle Design Tweaks Reflect Electric Identity

Though visually similar to the internal combustion engine version, the Range Rover Sport Electric prototype showcases minor but key changes to mark its EV status. The exterior largely maintains Land Rover’s iconic design, signaling that the brand stays true to its roots.

However, a few details reveal the electric transformation. The most notable is the closed-off front grille, a signature feature of many electric vehicles, with a thinner horizontal pattern that sets it apart from its gas-powered sibling. The rear, too, has seen changes, with the exhaust tips removed, signaling its fully electric drivetrain. A sticker confirms its prototype status as well as its electric powertrain.

Advanced Technology and Electric Architecture

For the Range Rover Sport Electric and Range Rover Electric, the same MLA platform that is currently used for internal combustion engine models is expected to be used. The electric version of the MLA platform features an 800V architecture and supports DC fast charging. It also has higher durability, with a 35% increase in torsional rigidity compared to the existing Land Rover platform.

Land Rover has announced that the Range Rover Electric will have a next-generation traction control system developed exclusively for the vehicle. Unlike conventional traction control systems based on ABS, this next-generation system distributes wheel slip management tasks directly to each individual electric drive control unit, which can significantly reduce each wheel’s torque response time.

Anticipation Builds for the 2025 Launch

Although exact specifications for the Range Rover Sport Electric, including powertrain details, are yet to be confirmed, the vehicle is expected to debut in the first half of 2025, following the full release of the Range Rover Electric earlier in the year.

With Land Rover already hinting at an electric vehicle introduction for South Korea when the latest Range Rover launched, interest in the brand’s EV offerings is gaining global and local momentum. The unveiling of these models is set to mark a new chapter for Land Rover as it accelerates toward an electric future.
