Kia’s Compact SUV Sportage
Next-Generation Model Rendering Revealed
Emphasizing Futuristic Design
Kia is gearing up to reveal a facelifted version of its popular Sportage compact SUV later this year. Ahead of the official launch, multiple prototypes were spotted during testing, and recently, leaked images from what appears to be an advertising shoot surfaced, offering a sneak peek at the refreshed design.
The upcoming Sportage will incorporate Kia’s latest design language, including its signature Star Map lighting and more angular, boxy body lines. Additionally, the new model is set to feature the latest in convenience and safety technologies, aiming to enhance its appeal in a competitive market further as expectations for the new Sportage rise. An overseas artist recently released a rendering about Sportage.
The Redesigned Sportage Rendering
Compared to the Prototype
The rendering in question depicts the next-generation Sportage, expected to launch in 2027, rather than the upcoming facelift set to debut soon. The artist behind the rendering speculates that this redesign will follow three years after the facelift model, offering a glimpse into Kia’s longer-term design direction. While the rendering is more of an imaginative take than an accurate preview, its bold styling has sparked considerable discussion among automotive enthusiasts.
Looking at the revealed appearance, the design applied in the recently captured Sportage facelift prototype has been changed to a more futuristic one. The prototypes show Kia’s Star Map signature lighting and vertical, boxy headlamps, similar to what we’ve seen on the new Carnival and Sorento. However, the rendering further refines and alters these features, hinting at a more progressive evolution of Kia’s design language.
Slimmer Headlamps and Grille
Bumper Emphasizing Sporty Design
The headlamps have become thinner, and the lower part extends toward the front fascia in an L-shape. In addition, the radiator grille is placed between the headlamps, giving a visually connected feel. In the prototype, the radiator grille has been enlarged to provide a more solid appearance, but it seems that the change in grille design emphasizes the futuristic look.
The fact that most of the front fascia area comprises body panels without other components also adds to this atmosphere. Accordingly, it is somewhat reminiscent of the design of an electric car. However, the bumper is sporty and contrasts with the futuristic atmosphere. A large air intake is placed on the side of the bumper.
Auto Flush Door Handles Applied
Emphasizing Smooth Side Profile
The aggressive atmosphere of the air intake and the solid appearance of the front splitter create a unique harmony. The bumper is finished in black. On the side, the B pillar and part of the C pillar are black to create a sense of unity, as if the glass windows are connected. The auto flush-type door handle reveals the smooth side body proportions.
The bumper features circular cladding, while the new wheel design emphasizes the vehicle’s fresh look. Black accents continue along the side rocker panels, adding a touch of ruggedness. While the rear rendering hasn’t been released, the facelift model is expected to retain the overall shape of the current Sportage’s taillights but with updated graphics. The prototype suggests that Kia’s Starmap Signature Lighting will be vital in blending vertical and horizontal elements for a modernized rear-end aesthetic.
