The Lexus ES, currently in its seventh generation, was first launched in Japan in 2018 and received a facelift in 2021. However, as it has been six years since the introduction of this generation, the design has begun to feel dated.

Recently, a manual for the new ES, representing its second facelift, was leaked in China, suggesting that significant exterior design changes are coming. Following this leak, Russian automotive media outlet Kolesa released a CG rendering of the updated ES, drawing considerable attention.

Detailed Exterior Changes
Daytime Running Lights Also Transformed

Initial expectations for the new ES included a redesign similar to the Toyota Camry. While this update seems to focus on enhancing interior specifications, the exterior will also receive some detailed changes. These alterations will apply only to the internal combustion engine model, potentially leaving the upcoming electric variant with a different design.

The leaked rendering reveals a notable change in daytime running lights (DRLs) shape. In the current model, the DRLs extend sharply along the bottom of the headlamp, whereas the new ES will feature an L-shaped DRL design running along both the top and bottom of the headlamps.

The existing vertical grille pattern will change to a horizontal pattern

The large radiator grille will also see a transformation. While the hourglass shape remains consistent with the current model, the new design will shift from a vertical pattern to a horizontal one. This will include short horizontal lines spaced closely together, reminiscent of the design used in the RX.

The sharp air intake area has also been enlarged compared to the current model. The vehicle’s rear will feature horizontally connected tail lamps, incorporating the same L-shaped DRL design. The arrangement of the horizontal reflector and chrome accents appears to align closely with the existing Lexus ES.

Modern Interior Design Applied
Removal of Various Physical Buttons Expected

The interior of the new ES is also anticipated to undergo significant updates. The most notable change will be introducing a larger infotainment display, likely similar to the 14-inch screens found in other Lexus models, such as the NX and RX. A digital cluster will also be integrated.

In contrast to the current ES, which includes various physical buttons below the display, the new model is expected to minimize these controls, resulting in a cleaner, more streamlined interior. Many functions, including climate control, will likely be accessible through the touchscreen display, further modernizing the ES’s cabin.

The second facelift of the Lexus ES will be launched next year, and with these updates, the brand aims to maintain its competitive edge in the premium sedan market.
